Drakkar BryceCF install

SimonJMSimonJM Posts: 5,982

Using DIM, the Drakkar BryceCF installs into my Carrara base directory Full path to the actual .br6 file is: C:\3D\Carrara\Bryce_7 Pro;7;6\Presets\DAZ Content\DAZ Companion Files).

As it happens something similar happens to the Trinity Atrium BCF (C:\3D\Carrara\Bryce\v-7 Pro;7\appdir_common\Presets).

This is despite having the install path chosen being D:/DAZ/Bryce.

Current Content Install Path:
Location = D:/DAZ/Bryce
Disk Total: 931.1 GB (999818260480)
Disk Avail: 275.5 GB (295832891392)
Installing product : Drakkar BryceCF
Product successfully installed : Drakkar BryceCF

D:\DAZ\Bryce is empty bar a InstallManagerFileRegister.json file

Some Bryce downloads don't go to the correct locations using DIM. Tre BryceCF files are actually scene files. They should have a suffix .br and the version number, so current bryce scene files will have .br7. All they contain is a set up scene into which you can import the corresponding model from DS (or of course Poser). They contain lights and such to allow you to render the scene straightaway once you have imported the model They actually don't need to be installed to Bryce as such, but can be put in your current Bryce scene file folder, or where ever else you want to store them.

It'd be nice though, as they are available via DIM for them to be dealt with correctly by DIM, don't you think! ;) I've got not real problem with moving files about, but as soon as I do then DIM will not be able to uninstall correctly and I will have to remember what I did with the files whenever (if) they get updated and I have to do a new install.

The Content install path is for DS/Poser content -- Bryce content is installed by DIM based on where Bryce is located in DIM's Settings > Applications tab.

Except these two aren't! Plus there's the 'rubbish' at the start of the path name involving directories with semi-colons in the name ;)

That folder name, like the folder named "Content" for DS/Poser products, is just a handy container. If you look at the manifest.dsx for a BCF, it will say something like:

TARGET="Application" means ignore the content folder and instead install based on the application settings.
TYPE="Bryce" means only install to the application Bryce
VERSION="7 Pro;7;6;5" means only install to these versions of the application
VALUE="Bryce_7 Pro;7;6;5/Presets/Daz Companion Files/BCF_KnightsKeep_ps_ac1165.bmp" means that the files are in that folder inside the zip, so take those files, remove the first folder (the one with the semicolons), and install the remainder to the Bryce application folder. Just like the folder "Content" in DS/Poser zips, you ignore the first folder when installing.

That certainly helps, but should not DIM be doing that?

What does your Settings > Applications tab look like?

What does your Settings > Applications tab look like?

For Bryce 7 Pro (32-bit) it is C:/3D/Bryce7

What does the manifest.dsx in the zip look like? I've occasionally run into one that wasn't set up properly.

    It looks like:

Yeah, that's incorrect, only the topmost folder gets stripped off, so the "Bryce_7 Pro;7;6" isn't getting removed, and the VERSION parameter is missing. Could you report that as a content bug?

    Ok, that's done

Thanks, sorry for the hassle. I think a lot of Bryce users don't use DIM, so errors in the manifest.dsx don't get reported.
