nVidia drivers - Game vs Creator?

I'll make this quick:

Is there a compelling reason to use the Creator drivers from nVidia over the game drivers? Like, noticeably better performance, or is it just a better compatibility reasoning.
For reference, I'm a DAZ hobbiest, with no negative repercussions if there's a fixable hiccup with compatibility; my mortgage isn't dependent on my getting out that render to a client by 8AM tomorrow. I also, my other hobby is VR flight sims, which definitely falls into the "gaming" category. I'm running a 3090 watercooled, if it makes a difference...

Thanks for any advice!

Erik

I didn't even know they had anything other than "Game Ready" drivers.  That's all I use.

Daz Studio is one of the supported programs for the Studio drivers.

Studio/Creator drivers are more stable, since they're more rigorously tested to ensure they don't have bugs. Game drivers, as the name implies, just shove whatever the latest bleeding edge tech is onto your computer to appease gamers.

More often then not you'll not have a problem with using game ready vs creator drivers. However, a real business, counting on real support from nVidia in terms of help with a bug, configuation, and trouble shooting won't get as much help filing for the help when they used game ready drivers as compared to creator drivers. Game ready drivers functionality is what eventually mostly winds up in creator drivers once they are tested by gamers thoroughly enough.

Studio/Creator Drivers are just old Game Ready drivers that got the least bug reports.

I use only Studio/Creator drivers and they just work fine on my computer.

You will not get any extra performance with one over the other, unless a driver had a bug that actually impacted performance.

The Studio specific drivers have additional testing done on them to verify them. That is all. It is possible that a game ready driver might introduce a bug that harms performance because they are not tested as much with creative software, but this is extremely rare. At least for Iray. Maybe with more sensitive software a Studio driver would be more important. But for Iray (and similar render engines) it really is not a big deal.

You can also game with a Studio driver as well. The Game Ready drivers only add optimizations for the newest and most popular games at the time, thus the name. If you don't game, there isn't any reason to use them.

Studio Drivers are like the Stable Release (Most dependable with a wide range of applications and games).
Game Ready Drivers are like a Public Beta (Latest and greatest tech currently in active development, but may unexpectedly introduce issues with some applications).

I've noticed that Game Ready Drivers tend to have issues with a few creative applications like NVIDIA Omniverse, which tends to be the most stable on NVIDIA Studio Drivers.

    In the words of NVIDIA:

GAME READY DRIVERS vs STUDIO READY DRIVERS

If you are a gamer who prioritizes day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose Game Ready Drivers
If you are a content creator who prioritizes reliability for creative workflows including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and livestreaming, choose Studio Drivers.
Do a little bit of both?  No worries, either can support running the best games and creative apps.

  • I use the studio drivers since I don't game.
