Bluejaunte's Caprica does not load here as character, only via G8.1

I just purchased and downloaded Bluejaunte's Caprica for 8.1.

I cannot load the character. (I did try twice, closing Studio between the two)
It does work when I load G8.1 and then add each part separately.

You may want to check.

Capica also has render problems in the face:

Change your Instance Optimization setting, that usually clears up precision errors from haircaps.

  • Thanks, but to what, and where?

This is something I've never done.

The odd specks you're seeing on the face are most likely from the hair. The haircap is clipping into the face. You could try adding a smoothing modifier to the cap, or, as Margrave suggests, adjust your instance optimization settings. :)

Folks never use too many studio specifc words with someone < 200 forum posts. And as I am > 1.000 and also do not know, may I ask where to change those instance optimization settings. Might help me with a lot of OoT hairs ;-)

Instance Optimization enables ("Memory") or disables ("Speed") Node Instances.  It defaults to "Auto", which always seems to pick the wrong option. For whatever reason, Nvidia programmed Iray so that if instances are enabled, the whole scene will be shifted to 0,0,0 to reduce floating-point precision errors (what those black specs are).

You can find it in Render Settings.

I doubt the instancing trick will help if there is actual clipping happening. It helps when geometry layers are very close together. (Sclera - eye moisture) For hair, the best fix are hair adjustment morphs.

The haircap clipping happens because Iray loses floating-point precision, moving surfaces closer together, and changing Instance Optimization nearly always solves it. On the rare cases it doesn't, applying a smoothing modifier to the scalp fixes the issue.

Regardless, everybody should be setting the Instance Optimization since there's no downside, AFAIK, to shifting your scene to 0,0,0.
