Blender characters into Daz Studio

Is there a way to import rigged characters made in blender into Daz Studio with textures and rigging?

In theory, the FBX importer should do this.

Good luck getting it to work though.

I'd use the shrink-wrap modifier to help make a morph for Genesis 8, then adjust rigging to shape and ERC freeze, if needed.

That way, no irritating rigging to perform.

If it's just genesis chars, I highly recommend shape rigger plus.

  • Okay shape rigger plus? Cool. But what about the import from blender into Daz Studio part? How best to go about that?

    It's pretty straightforward if it's a genesis.

    1. you export the character from DAZ as an OBJ on base resolution

    2. you import in blender with "keep vertex order"  checked

    3. make your changes and export from blender as obj and import that into DAZ using the advanced morph loader and find the morph dial on the figure

    4. apply shape rigger plus

if you already have a character made and you want to convert it to a genesis character, can probably try shrinkwrapping it over your character as nicstt stated but can get messy if your character is very unique and you're probably better off starting over

  • davidtriune the character is made in blender not Daz. How do I import it from blender to Daz Studio? That's what I'm trying to ask here. It made AND rigged in blender NOT Daz Studio to be clear. And has textures

If you export as an OBJ, it will have an option to keep the textures--though they won't look the same since shading is very application-specific.

As for the rigging, as I mentioned, try FBX.

i dont think there's an easy way. if it's a humanoid i suggest trying what I said and converting it to Genesis8. if it's not, try FBX or import as OBJ and rig it yourself.

    I suggest 2 option:

    1. import as FBX (OBJ doesn't support rigs)
    2. import as OBJ in the self pose (and self scale) of a G8. Use Transfer Utility to copy/paste the rigs from a G8 to your model. So clothing/hair/etc.. won't be supported but you will be able to apply G8 poses

There is also a third option: convert your model to a morph... it's the most complicated solution but you'll be able to use G8 pose and even cloths/hair/etc..

  • I'm tempted to try the third option. Please elaborate. And how would I handle rigging and textures if I do so?

  • Does fbx import support textures?

  • I'm mostly concerned about rigging, poses and keeping the textures if possible. Is fbx import the best way if that's what I want? I'm no good at self rigging. Zero! And forget creating my own textures! It has a rig and textures with it but everything is made in blender as I mentioned before.

FBX supports texture, the only problem is that you'll have to riassign it to the model when you reimport in DAZ (due diffferent shader).

When you create an FBX you create the model (fbx) and all the texture in image format.. so it's usually convenient to export fbx in an empty directory.
