Missing dsf, possible mis-named path

Hoping that someone could help.

I know that there a lot of postings on missing .dsf files. I haven't been able to find one that nails my problem.

I'm working in Daz Studio 4.7.0.12 64-bit. I bought Cargo Pant B (yes, Pant. Not pants) from renderosity. It says it was created for PC. I'm on a Mac running 10.8.5. I had to install it manually as you do with all Renderosity items. When I try and load the pants I get this message:

Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected. The following files could not be found: /data/H&C/Product/Cargo Pant B/UV Sets/H&C/Base/.dsf ———See attached file.

I think my problem is this path. If you notice, the missing file is .dsf. When I go into My Library and search out the path, the file in the Base folder is default.dsf—not .dsf.

So my question is, how do I get under the hood on this product to make sure that Daz Studio looks for default.dsf?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm on a PC and if I drill down on the data folder in the zip installer, there is a .dsf in the data\H&C\Product\Cargo Pant B\UV Sets\H&C\Base\ folder that is 158,555 bytes. I was able to install both files, so I don't receive an error message loading the pant.

Do you see .dsf file and if you do, can you manually upzip the file to the data\H&C\Product\Cargo Pant B\UV Sets\H&C\Base\ folder? That should solve your issue.

I think what happened is the creator realized the .dsf was missing a filename and added a default.dsf into the data\H&C\Product\Cargo Pant B\UV Sets\H&C\Base\ folder, but forgot to update the Cargo Pant B.duf file. If you're comfortable editing .duf files, another option is to update the Cargo Pant B.duf.

    1. Make a copy of the Cargo Pant B file as a backup.
    2. Decompress one of the files with Batch Convert (Windows>Panes(Tabs)>Batch Convert).
    3. Bring the file into an ASCII text editor and replace: Base/.dsf#asset with Base/default.dsf#asset
    4. Save the changes and the pant should load.

Another alternative is to resolve the issue by the creator via Renderosity Customer Service.

I've posted a picture of the two files, default.dsf and .dsf in the zip installer.

    Thanks for your reply.

I tried your first suggestion. I have an application called zipeg that can peer inside of a zip and I see the .dsf. Sadly, Mac OS X does not see files without a file name. It hides them.

Now as to the .duf file, I was able to decompresses it. I opened it in my text editor and had my IT guy do the same thing on the PC side. I found 12 instances for the .dsf that I changed to default.dsf. But it didn't work. I getting the same error message that I included in my first post. However your process raised a question.

I was able to decompress the .duf file. But now that file has been decompressed and is essentially a text file, how do you make it a true .duf file again? Do you compress it as a zip and then change the file extension to .duf? I think that my issue at this point is after I have edited the .duf file, I am not making a new, true .duf file.

The .duf file will function in a compressed or non-compressed format.

re: the search and replace on the Cargo Pant B.duf. If you are still getting that message, it tell me you missed changing one or you are not loaded the patched file. In the Cargo Pant B.duf, you find occurrences of:

    "uv_set" : "/data/H&C/Product/Cargo Pant B/UV Sets/H&C/Base/.dsf#asset"

The goal is to change the text string .dsf#asset to default.dsf#asset

I did check and there are 12 occurrences of the text string .dsf#asset

I would bring the file back into a text editor and search for .dsf#asset and make sure all of them were changed.
