New Smart Content is amazing

I just started to use the updated Smart Content feature and it is amazing. Now finally, I feel like I have access and control of my DAZ products. It works without a hitch with very little explanation needed and very intuitive. Whoever developed it, did a great job. I hope this means that finally DAZ is starting to develop a user interface that is not confusing and has a steep learning curve. I love the way the product box icon turns from black and white to color as it is installed on my computer - simple, direct,  and very elegant. I have been having a great time accessing products that I did not realize t;hat I had and understanding the relationships between the families of products.

    In the end your milage may vary. In my opinion you won't be able to use Daz Studio in its true potential without also having access to the "Content Library" pane.

    Many packages still manage to use odd categories, ignore standards, or plain out use non-existing categories (or none at all) which lands them in "Lost + Found", a section which you won't be able to access with the smart contents pane (depending on context!) but which you can access with ease using the content library.

    Which brings me to....

    In that case you need to check your content library. If you installed an official package then verify its name, expand the 'Products' section within the content library pane and look in there. See my attachment for an example...  this is from the nice Noggins Bull and Calf model. The models are perfectly usable (and pretty good too IMO) but as you can see... no smart content by default.

    Note that you can also change this yourself... so.. you can manually add content to the smart content product library. A bit too much to type up for now but there are a few guides about it around here IIRC.

    Hope this can help.

    But yeah... in the overall I agree: smart contents can be very useful!

    I found that some items appear in my Content Library and do not appear in Smart Content. So I just check both and generally find what I need. Lost and Found is another place I had not thought of to look. Now I understand why they appear there.

    If you use DIM to install DAZ products, you must see something in Smart Content subject to that you have CMS started or Smart Content is empty.

    Totally agreed! Especially the searching function, after digging out the tricks for a long time I wanna share some pretty useful searching terms as below:

    1. Searching by Product Description: e.g. "name::Agathe Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s) , then this product will be exactly located

    2. Searching by SKU: e.g. sku::66389

    3. Searching by partial description: e.g. bracelet, then all the Products with description contains 'bracelet' will be shown

    4. Searching by sub item's description: e.g. key::bracelet, then all the products in which there's a bracelet accessory/wardrobe will be shown

    5. Searching by Artist: e.g. "key::Rarestone

    6. Searching by 'and' terms: e.g. Genesis%8.1%%Female, then all the Products with description contains 'Genesis', '8.1' and 'Female'  will be shown

    7. Searching by 'or' terms: e.g. swimsuit kini bathing, then all the Product with description contains 'swimsuit' or 'kini' or 'bathing' will be shown

    Hope these tricks can help with expediting your searching in Smart Content. Happy rendering!

    That is not always the case. Using DIM provides no guarantees what so ever, it all depends on the product(s) you're installing. There are still plenty of packages out there which do not fully support the smart contents feature. I've been expanding my library quite a bit in the past weeks and yah... some products don't show up at all wheereas others end up in Lost + Found. Using DIM is not a given here.

    Normally for non-DAZ IM* product package for instance the products coming from Renderosity, I always use Content Wizard to install them all. It's a great tool with only weakness that there's been no uninstallation function so far. But anyway I can manage all products for DAZ in Smart Content.

    In general,as long as it's a IM* package,it could be shown in Smart Content after installation. Only due to wrong metadata, there will be some Lost and Found generated, however, all Lost and Found could be eliminated by editing product's metadata, i.e. giving the item with correct categories. In such a way, I by now have ZERO Lost and Found in my Smart Content. Also some IM* package have wrong directory and category setup that will make my Smart Content and Content Libray messy, I still can unzip the IM* package to correct them by modifiying the manifest and support files so as to make my library pretty clean and with no error. Besides, I never login when starting up DAZ Studio to avoid the wrong metadata being pushed to me to modify my existing data in Smart Content. It's a tricky way to keep a good condition of my Smart Content.
