What is the dark gray selection bar in the scene tab and why can't I move anything because of it?

So I just duplicated node heigharchy for a figure, his hair didn't follow because it is not parented, so I duplicate node heigharchy for it, then the original hair gets this dark gray highlight across it, and when I select the second hair and try to move it, it does not move, nothing does. I can't get the dark gray highlight to go away. Then it moves without reason to something else. Hair still can't move. But the duplicated body did. The move arrows are now several meters to the left of my hair, but it never moved.

What is that dark gray highlight, what does it do, and how do I move my hair?

Wild Mane hair, Genesis 8.1 male, and yes it isn't a compatible figure, but I got it to work, so is that the issue? I still want to know about the highlight.

  • The dark grey bar is just a redraw issue, as far as I know.

Most of the nodes in your scene are unselectable in the Viewport - the x next to the arrow/pointer icon. The hair is a fitted figure so it will follow the figure it is fitted to - check that that is correct.

The arrows show the location of the figure - if you move it using the root bone (usually the hip) then the figure may be offset relative to the geometry (or rather vice versa)
