Iray Preview Conundrum

I've been having an issue with the Iray preview when I load in one specific object - Aon Soul's The Legend Boots. It's not overloading the system...the preview otherwise moves fine. However, the preview won't show up unless I move the camera. When I stop moving the camera, the preview shuts off. And if I remove the boots from the scene, the preview stays broken (if I've saved the scene after trying to preview the boots). It's like the boots somehow corrupt the scene. I don't know why or how or if the boots are really at fault, but it doesn't start happening until I load in the boots. Again, it's not that I'm running out of system resources...this is only one figure with some clothing and no hair. It happens in DS 4.12 and DS 4.15. I'm at a loss. I really want to use the boots, but I don't want to not have an Iray preview for the duration.

Just a thought: What is the sub-division setting on those? If I recall correctly, those are very high detail with high subD setting. When you move the viewport the subD goes to base, so it could be that you can work it durinbg movement but that it is too high when it fully subdivides? If the view port subD is high, try to set it to a lower values.

Are there any Iray Decals parented to that item?

those always screw up my Iray Preview if I have instances in my scene.

Also, you could probably play with the Draw Settings tab.  Maybe Iray Biased works fine for you? i obviously that wont render SSS, Emissives, etc properly, but still decent render preview otherwise

No, but even so, I've never had issues with decals.

I didn't check, but given that I have 11GB VRAM with 32GB of RAM and I'm only working with a single figure and a few clothing items at the moment (not even hair yet or dForce), I can't imagine that would be an issue. I regularly use Iray preview without issue when working on characters at SubD 4.

I'm just not going to use those boots. I don't know what the heck the issue is.

I have no problem with the boots, preview or otherwise.

What if you load just the boots? Then add something else?

If I load the boots in a clean scene they are fine. It's something about that scene it doesn't like. I already rebuilt it once and it did the same thing again. I know it's easy to say that I'm just overloading the system, but believe me...there's no logical reason that should be the case. I've had some scenes in the past take upwards of 5min to load...this one loads in under a minute, so it's not huge at all.

Ok, so it's not just the boots. There's definitely something going on with the scene itself and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

Add one piece at a time until it fails, if you haven't lost interest by now...

Yeah I dunno...it's wierd. I can't narrow it down to one single thing. I'm giving up for the evening and will try again tomorrow. I was going to try and kitbash a new outfit for this scene, but I think I'll stick with the outfit I already kitbashed before. It's awesome anyways.
