Black Widow movie

I just paid an extra $29.95 to watch Black Widow on Disney+. I tried watching the movie on my TV with the XBox One, and then on the computer. The audio was terrible. I cranked the audio to 100% and could barely hear anything. I would have been lost without sub-titles.

Has anyone else experienced the same audio troubles?! I liked the movie, I think. I'll reserve my opinion till I can finally hear it easily.

Get yourself a Dolby Atmos-capable home cinema system. Then you'll get the audio.

  • Audio is a common complaint abiout film and television on home equipment - either it's all inaudible or the music is all too audible and drowns out the dialogue.

i think Disney are taking people for a ride with the pricing on movie rentals, taking advantage of people who cant go out and watch it at a cinema.

I paid $25 to see it at a premium cinema, big recliner style seating with you own little table, wall to wall screen and proper audio etc. Much better experience for less money

Thanks for your responses. I just don't have the budget for any fancy audio equipment right now. I justified the streaming price easily. I'd spend lots of money for a ticket, food & drink. Then I'd spend around $20 for taxi fare.

I cancelled Disney + a few months ago since I am boycotting them which ticks my neice and nephew off because they want to watch Black Widow and Loki now, LOL. Never had audio issues though while I had it.

Scarlett Johansen is suing for $25 million over that movie so I guess she's upset about the home theatre experience as well.

I have Disney Plus and watch it frequently on my Ipad Pro II, I also watch Disney Plus on my desktop computer using blue tooth speakers (Marshall Emberton). It sounded great on both devices Niether are described as 'fancy'

    they likely decode it correctly

My monitor speakers sound like crap on my Win10 they use my HDMi Nvidia sound output
but my cheap (<40AUD) 4.1 sound system thats is over 10 years old, plugged into all my soundcard outputs FL,FR,LR,RR is awesome

the sound surrounds me quadraphonically, just lack a front speaker but the Realtek soundblaster settings let me compensate for that.

The point is you don't need to spend very much but you do need to drill into your computer settings, a TV a soundbar is your best bet and not dear either,

I have watched many different TV shows and movies. All of them have excellent audio. Black Widow was the only "event" that had audio issues.

I'd love to get a decent audio system, but must reserve my funds for more essential things.

Yeah, audio mixed for surround sound can sound quite good on the equipment made for it. But when playing it through straight stereo (or even mono) equipment you tend to lose channels if your system isn't capable of downmixing it properly. And even if it can do so, it can be hit and miss.

Rather than invest in Disney money would be better spent on audio. That said I'm old and know little of audio but "in my day" BOSE was considered a safe bet.

I did watch it on the PC and had the same audio problems. I chose Disney+ and other services because of my interests in SciFi and Marvel Superheroes etc. Oh, I just ordered a new sound system. It likely won't impress the purists, but should be an improvement over TV speakers!smiley

  • Check your audio settings within the Disney+ account. There is a known issue with the Surrond Sound when it is set to Auto.See here: https://decortweaks.com/how-to-fix-disney-plus-sound-not-working/

I had the same issue on my laptop when Disney+ first started. I believe tweaking the audio settings fixed it once I found one that fit my hardware.

I have not had any audio issues with Disney+ but I have not purchased any movies on it either.

I didn't see any audio settings.... only some "generic" setting, with choices such as "automatic, etc.)

I watch all movies on a huge screen in a virtual movie theater in VR in my Oculus Quest headset. I can even invite friends who have headsets to sit next to me and watch together. If you can afford Daz products, you can probably afford the Quest2 or save up, it’s totally worth it for so many things!  I really have no reason to go back to physical movie theaters although I do want to support them so they don’t go out of business!

Change automatic to always. This prevents Disney+ from deciding which audio it thinks you want.

If you are using it on an App, like your Xbox or direct to your TV, try emptying the cache specific to the application. I have to do this every month or so with HBO Max, Netflix, and Disney+ on my Amazon Fire.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the app and reinstall it. I have to do this about every six months when the app(s) stop opening. It appears to be a flaw in my 1st Gen Amazon Firestick.

Pretty much the same here. I feel bad for actual theatres with covid and all the other ways to enjoy a movie outside of a theatre. I discovered the fandango app in Oculus Quest 2 has actual 3D movies. I can never go back to normal Jurassic World after seeing it in 3D. Now I am obsessed with finding more 3d movies.

Is it in 4K? Do you get a headache? I need to replace a big screen TV next year but maybe a virtual movie theatre in Occulus or similar is more sensible.

I missed the good ole days, when you can watch a movie on blu-ray with a proper 5.1 sound setup on a 55" LED TV

  • Ron KnightsRon Knights Posts: 1,805

    JVRenderer. I have a 55" TV and bluray. I don't have a 4K TV. Actually, I have 4 TVs!laugh

I am personally used to VR, and you can adjust the screen any way you want for optimal viewing. the clarity isn't the same as a dedicated 4K tv in your face, but the comfort and size make up for it to me. You could always get a Quest 2 on Amazon and try it out and rerurn it if is doesn't fit your needs, it's what a couple of my coworkers did, but they never returned it, LOL
