SOLVED ----I REALLY need this pwGhost to work

I try to apply the effect to a figure and all it does is change the color of the figure to opaque purple, or some other color.  I am using the 3Delight render engine and one distant light.  https://www.daz3d.com/pwghost

Did you first apply the base shader? It isn't the DAZ Studio default.

I was also going to ask to see a screenshot of the surface settings.

I applied the pwGhost shader, then one of the effect shaders.

    The effect shader.

BTW, the effect will only show in the render, no preview.

Is that a render, or just your viewport? Those shaders won't show properly in preview.

Also, the "shader" value in the screenshot of the surface tab shows "multiple" since you've selected everything. What does it say when you select only one surface with the pw shader?

That is the render.  Genesis turns out bright red.

I tried it on an old Michael 4 figure.  Same result.

That is what it looks like with Iray renders or preview. Are you sure you are in 3DL mode?

I selected only one surface, the torso.  This is the render.

    Yes, I'm sure it's a 3Delight render.

I have a feeling the files are not in the right folders.

  • AlmightyQUESTAlmightyQUEST Posts: 2,005

In the last screenshot you still have the DAZ Default shader. Make sure you have the figure and the surface selected when applying the base PW Ghost shader so that it applies the other shader. If that is still not applying a different shader than DAZ Default, it might be worth trying to reinstall PW Ghost. You could check for the shader file to make sure it's installed in the right place, but off hand I don't know the location for it.

Surface is showing DAZ Studio Default shader, so the pwGhost shader is not being applied, for some reason. Do you have the other shaders in that set? Try one of them to see what happens.

Just did a quick test, the shader is working in the latest version of Studio so it's not a compatibility issue (my biggest fear with these shaders!), so it's something else we can figure out going on.

Thank you for doing that.  Would it be possible to show me where the files were placed on your computer?  I went over the README list and made sure every file was placed where the list said it was supposed to be.  But the base ghost shader still seems to not apply.  And what kind of light did you use in your scene?

This is what is in the zip file for the product.  Am I supposed to install the files from both those folders?

    Absolutely. How are you installing?

I opened the zip and manually dragged each file into the place the readme said it should go in my DAZ content.

The path for the /scripts part is not content, it has to go in the /Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio 4/ folder, not the Content Library.

You mean in the Applications folder on my internal hard-drive?  My 3D content is on an external drive. You mean the scripts goes in here:

Yes, sorry didn't realize you were on a Mac. They should end up under the Scripts (scripts/support/Poseworks/... ) and Shaders folders. (Unless the Mac uses a different layout. Just use the same paths as in the .zip)

As NorthOf45 mentioned already, the shader files are located in C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\shaders on my machine (these are separate from the files in the content folder that you actually use within DS to apply the shader).

In the test render I did it was just a single distant light with raytraced shadows on. I would generally have more lights for softer shadows, but I haven't done anything in 3delight that wasn't with pwToon shaders in a long time.

Possibly try reinstalling it.  On a fresh OS install or if the DAZ Studio folder ever needs to be rebuilt you will need to, because although some of the content gets intstalled into your content library, other files end up in the DAZ Studio folder somewhere, so they could be missing.  Can't remember for sure if betas use the same folder or not, possibly you would need to handle multiple installations by installing in both places.   Same with all the pw<whatever> products.

SUCCESS !   Thank you thank you thank you!  That was the problem.  I was putting all the files in the Content folder on my external HD.  I moved the ones you said to my internal HD into the Application folder for DAZ3d and it worked!!  I really appreciate your help!  All of you!
