Understanding Dimension Theory HDR Resources

My biggest problem with DAZ is the lighting. However, it has come to my attention that packages from vendors like DimensionTheory allow you to place a DAZ figure in a pre-defined setting. You simply bring up a DAZ figure and then use the HDR products from Dimension Theory to place the figure in the pre-defined setting and voila! you have very professional-looking outdoor lighting that makes it relatively easy to create high-quality renderings with perfect outdoor lighting! Am I understanding how the product works correctly? I assume that there are indoor lighting products that do the same thing. Is that true? If so, can you recommend some of your favorite indoor lighting programs?

Thanks in advance!

Here are some of the products that I am talking about. If you have had experience with any of them, I would like to get your feedback before I buy:

    iRadiance HDR Resources – Hawaii
iRadiance - HDRI Variety Pack Two
iRadiance HDR Resources - Parks and Rec Vol 1
iRadiance HDR Resources - Parks and Rec Vol 2
iRadiance Pro Series 16k HDRIs - Rain City Chicago

  • HDRs are high dynamic range images, they represent the full view around a point in space. When used to render the value of the sphere image is used as the brightness of the light coming from that diection, and the image can also be drawn as a backdrop. For an image to work as a backdrop it does need to be very high resolution as you are seeing only a tiny segment of the entire sphere (how tiny depends on the camera's focal length/zoom).
