Baking smoothed clothing into figure.

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

I often use the "apply smoothing modifier" to fix poke through of clothing on my figures.

Its a great feature and one I couldn't work without. However recently I tried using mcasual's export to blender script as I wanted to try out cycles render engine on a scene created in DAZ.

If you are not aware mcausals scripts for DAZ are amazing and all free:

However,

When exporting scenes, the model meshes are exported as morphed but without the mesh smoothing modifier applied.

Thus all the poke through you don't see in DAZ, will appear in blender.

I noticed there is a "bake smoothed morphs" option in Scene -> Edit -> Geometry -> Bake Smoothed morphs

However when I do this, nothing appears to happen. And the scene still exports the same as before, I guess the base mesh isn't effected by this so I'm wondering if the option is just currently broken? It would be good if the smoothed mesh could be baked into a morph slider and then the modifier could be removed so as to not have to recompute it every movement if not required.

Instead try exporting just the clothing as an OBJ then load it as a morph with Morph Loader Pro and set Reverse Deformations to remove the effect of the existing morphs and transforms.

Do you have Interactive Update turned on under the smoothing tab? This has to be set to ON before exporting in order to save out with the applied smoothing. Just be sure to turn it back off when done because it slows things down considerably.
