how do i know when a render is done

I am learning the turials and pressed render a figure..its doing it yet dont see when it started or finished it...

A lot of programs out there display the progress bar so how i know when its done or...

Renders are never "done" in Iray. When you render a scene, each sample iteration makes it look a little better. It can theoretically keep going forever. However, past a certain point, it becomes diminishing returns where each iteration offers little-to-no improvement. If you want, you can enable the "Rendering Quality" options and Iray will stop it when it reaches a certain level of diminished returns. However, the best option is to turn that off and just render it until it looks good.

the renders arent top notch to be honest so question is.. can i export it to another render or not

You can export the scene as an OBJ file and render it in another program, but that would require rebuilding all the materials for that program's renderer.
