Anyone Having Problems Rendering in DS 4.15?

I've been having trouble rendering scenes with more than one or two characters for a little while now and I was wndering if it could be only since I upgraded to 4.15, when that was first released. I didn't seem to have any trouble rendering in 4.14 or earlier. It's frustrating when I get an error message and DS shuts down in the middle of a render. I have twice as much RAM now than I did with 4.14, yet I was able to render up to three or four charactes in one scene with scenery, clothing, hair, and lighting. Now, I seem to be able to render only portraits of a single figure mostly. It occurred to me that this has been happening since the 4.15 upgrade was released. Has anyone else had trouble rendering with 4.15? I've put in tickets and, although I had help from tech support, I'm not able to solve this problem. There are times when I wish there was an archive where I could get an earlier version of DS, like 4.14 or 4.12. I never had these problems with those.

  • Do you have the Aug NVidia Studio Driver?

And yes there has been some history of driver conflicts. Some may be resolved by using the beta edition {installed via DIM}.

I've looked for the beta DS, but I can't find it. Also, does it allow you to install it on another drive? I have a partitioned drive and I need my programs installed on Drive D not C.

The beta version appears to be only for MAC users. I'm on a Microsoft Windows based computer, so it doesn't look like that's a solution for me. Unless there's a Windows 10 version somewhere that I can't find.

Correct your settings in DIM then because of course the beta is also for W10 users! The beta is tested using the latest drivers from NVidia.

There are also a couple of other 'products' for the beta which can be downloaded either manually or via DIM. They'll be in your Product Library. The program itself has to downloaded/installed via DIM.

I didn't see it in there. I even unhid hidden files in DIM and I can't find it.

  • Did you "buy" it first?

I found the beta and installed it. I tried to render one that kept crashing on me in my regular DAZ Studio, and it still crashes and closes in the beta, but I think it's the boat I had in the image. It might just be too big for my computer, however, I still can't render more than one character if I have an environment in it. I do remember some people saying that they thought the beta version worked better than the full release, so I'll play iwth it and see if what it can do. Thanks, Catherine, for your help.

  • If things are too big for your render. Do them one at at time and composit in Gimp or Photoshop. You can also use a different render engine.

  • One thing that can practically guarantee a collapse is if the wrong shaders are being used. I know some shaders are more forgiving than others but still, if rendering in Iray with anything having the wrong 3Delight shader applied to it, D/S will crash. Vice versa too. To test if that's the problem select 'everything' and apply the basic Iray shader to it. Forget the maps for this. If with just the basic Iray shader applied D/S does not crash, then you know you have an errant shader material that needs to be fixed.

I've done this in the past and it works, but it's a lot extra work. But it is a good alternative to trying to get everything into the scene all at the same time.
