Daz Gallery slow and buggy like counter (again).
![BlueFingers](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/301/nWK624MYZFUNN.jpg)
Is there a bug in the Daz gallery? I seem to have lost a lot of like in the last 24 hrs, not that it is really important, but I thought it was weird. For example, my Man At His Desk is now trending on the first page with just 11 likes since august 12th which cannot be the case if you look as the likes and posting dates of the renders around it. I think I had in the twenty likes on it or something.
I think another render lost likes too.
Anyone else experienced this?
Edit: I think it happened after replied to some comments thanking them.

Now your render is gone and Girl Collection with 10 likes is "Trending"
And now mine is back again with 29 likes, which is about what I expected,...strange things are happening in the gallery.
And now it's down to 27,...
And now it's back at 29,...
The gallery kind of sucks honestly. I know it's the most unhelpful thing to say on something you want to be corrected but I'm just SO FRUSTRATED WITH IT.
First your image is INCREDIBLE! But with the counting errors, I had an image that also dropped BIG TIME from near 100 down to 19 after the gallery re-opened a few months back. I did submit a trouble ticket and they fixed it but it's strangeness all around.

Here's the image if it matters.
ANOTHER BUG:
Also have you noticed since 8/11/2021 when they added the red heart to show which images you have favored that it got slower? If you did, it's because the more images you favor, the harder it has to work to find which ones you have favored and draw a red heart vs a hollow one. I personally favored 1000+ images and it takes up to 30 seconds to load each and every page in the gallery! Chrome keeps telling me the page has become unresponsive and to WAIT or CLOSE the page.
It's truly a horrible experience and I'm trying to browse to each image and be supportive of everyones work. Logging out or loading the page in INCOGNITO will bring back the speed but as soon as you log in it becomes the WORST WEBSITE IN THE WORLD! Litterally it brings dial-up modem speeds back and I'm talking 14,4K baud not 56K.
I have submitted a ticket and I urge everyone to do the same if you have favored many images and it's slow for you too.
I also have noticed artwork in the Gallery dropping "Likes" then seeing them reappear after a few days (it happens with my own gallery page too and one image didn't correct itself until two months later??)
And I can also confirm Junk's experience with the horrendous slow-down of the Gallery site since the latest update to the red hearts.. it has become unusuable for me, unresponsive and incredibly slow which causes me to give up in frustration. I submitted a ticket last week but have not heard back from them yet - hopefully if they become aware of the issue by recieving more tickets from users they can find a fix for the problem.
It only becomes unusable for me when I'm logged in, if I browse without logging in it seems fine - but of course I then can't comment or "like" any artwork.
This is not good at all, but it does explain why I have been missing some people on the gallery if more people gave up. That's a real shame. I get why you guys are frustrated.
Have you been posting your work anywhere else Kibosh?
Edit: I updated the thread title to reflect the content a bit better.
Thank you BlueFingers and Kibosh! I hope more people are willing to stand up and say .... this gallery website sucks and is not right for a leading provider of 3D assets and software.
Have you personally noticed the slow down BlueFingers? I see you have favored many many images yourself which is way cool! If not, try logging out and see if it responds faster for you. Try jumping around to different tabs and then individual images. Then try the same while logged in.
Just in case Kibosh doesn't respond you can find his work here:

Doing anything in the new gallery has been an exercise in frustration for me. Granted, my internet connection is questionable at best, but I am able to consistently upload images and post here on the forums.![sad sad](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/sad_smile.png)
Recently it took no less than 48 attempts to upload a 716 KB black and white image to my gallery, hours of failed attempts. So frustrating!
More often than not when I attempt to leave a comment or reply to one, my browser locks up. I have tried with multiple browsers, computers, and phones with the same results.
Last spring I took a break from the gallery due to these issues, and only recently used the gallery again in the hope things had improved. I actually think it is worse.
Thanks junk for refering BlueFingers to my DA site, I was about to check in and see if there were any updates here and I see you have answered already :)
BlueFingers, I haven't posted anything at either gallery for about a month - since my giant pig image - and I often don't look at the galleries for days - otherwise I find I spend all day looking and no time making ;)
Ha, dtrsbrutal, I thought that may have been the case for you, it's a shame because if the gallery worked smoothly it would prevent quite a few people from abandoning it and lets face it, it's in Daz's interest to keep people because they are potential customers and also the posted images are a source of material for Daz's marketing used throughout their websites.
I presume the Daz team is quite small and they prioritise other things over the Gallery but in the end it's all a reflection of their profile.
BTW, does anyone know if you can get notifications on Gallery comments anymore? It was removed with the new look (along with Artist Search) as far as I'm aware, I find that without it there is no way of knowing if someone asks a question or writes a comment on an older image unles I physically open every image in my gallery to check? Which no-one is obviously going to do.
I actually love the gallery here. Not the way it works (or doesn't) but the fact that there is so much creative content that doesn't involve giant body parts. That can be hard to find on DA. I would think that Daz would prioritize the gallery, at least a little bit, since they get so much of their marketing materials from it. I hope these issues get resolved soon.
I agree, it's great to be able to refer my parents to the site to see artwork (mine and others) knowing they won't stumble accidentally onto anything which may shock them - as can happen on Deviant Art.
It's just since their complete overall of the site, it has become clunky and missing obvious features found elsewhere. But, it's a lot of free content for them so yes, it should be important for their marketing strategy.
@junk, no I haven't seen a major slow down in response time of the gallery, but then I don't have as much content or given as many likes (yet) on there as you guys. It also never has been particularly fast and always felt a bit slugish.
@Kibosh I manually open older images once in a while to check for new comments, I don't think there is a feature to give you notifications for new comments, only for replies to your comments. It's a bit weird I agree.
@Certaintree38 That is exactly why I'm not on DA, I figured I wouldn't really fit in there. I have no bikini babes, I have no ponies and really no interested in making those. Nothing against folks who enjoy that stuff, and I have no issue with nudity or erotic stuff, it's just not my thing. I yesterday literally thought of making an online gallery website because I kind of was dissapointed after looking at alternative gallery options out there, and as it's hard to monetize I don't see any alternative arriving that quickly. I'll look a bit more into it, as it wouldn't have to make a profit for me, just want to make sure I don't end up with a money pit that takes too much of my time. But I'm also afraid those are the reasons why there are so few really good alternatives to DA.
Yes, I now resort to manually checking for fresh comments too but not on images from months ago (I literally only do one or two a month) The old gallery had notifications, why it was removed is anyone's guess, so this new version is very much a step backward.
BTW, you may be ok being on Deviant Art - I was wary of it too but honestly, because you lock in the people you want to watch and you get notified of new artwork from those watchers on the one page you very rarely come across the stuff you have no interest in unless you go looking for it. I don't do any of that artwork you talked about either - only because I have no real interest in it and there are a million others doing it, not because I'm a prude. There are thousands of others who do amazing art, digital, photography, watercolour, illustration, 3D, gaming etc. I actually watch more artists who don't do 3D because I prefer the freedom they have in creating anything without having to have the props. It has very good methods of keeping in touch with people and commenting and replying. I've been there a couple of years and have found it to be very useful although I'm not in many big groups so it's been reasonably manageable so far - if it's worked for me I think you would definitely fit in if you're selective with your contacts etc. :)
Hmmm, I might take DA out for a spin and kick the tyres.
And now Girl Collection is trending with just 5 likes, and 6 comments with the picture of people that like it, there is definitely something wrong with the gallery counter. The amount of likes always outnumber the comments, and 5 likes is never enough to become trending.
I've only posted 2 images in the last 5 months. The gallery is just painful to use.
Painful to use, but I admit my biggest annoyance with it is the lack of notifications when someone has commented/responded to a comment on your image *sighs* all in all though, I tend to try to post a image now and than (or a few at a time as is often the case) but it's not anywhere near what it used to be. It's just not fun to use the gallery at all, neither as a viewer or a user :(
I hear you! That's one of my biggest bugbears too - no longer any notifications. How can we respond to a comment written on an an older image by someone who has just seen it? Not many are going to go through all their old work to check - esspecially when the general speed of the website has just slowed down massively again. The crux of it is in your last statement.. it's just not a pleasant user experiece overall - which is probably more noticeable to longer term users because features which were once there have now been removed. (Where is the "Search Artist" function? Absolutley in the top three basic functions for any galley.. been removed now)
I submitted a ticket explaining this slowdown issue and asking if they will restore the notifications and search functions... but have heard nothing back yet.
Considering the very, very poor comunication to users when the Gallery was being rebuilt (a simple update on the landing page to manage expectations would have sufficed) I won't hold my breath ;)
I totally get that it's their site and it's free for us to use, they can do as they please and we can go elsewhere if we don't like it.. but if they WANT people to come and use the gallery, it has to work for the user first and foremost. Basic stuff really.
Happy rendering!
To get started with your "watch" setup quickly (so you can look at your "Watch" page and only see new stuff relating to things you like) here's a simple method. (You probably know this anyhow but just in case you don't)
If you like landscapes for example, find someone or a scene of a landscape you like then click on the artist who posted it and go to their "favourites" which will probably have lots of other scenes of landscapes by different artists. Then simply go through picking out ones you like and click on the artist who posted those ones and repeat the process. Soon you will have a whole bunch of people you "Watch" who only do stuff you are interested in.
You can have lots of different folders for your favourites depending on the genre's you like. I have ones of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Landscapes, Medieval, Victorian etc. for instance.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the tip Kibosh, I'll see you there soon!
I completely agree with you certaintree38 and Kibosh! The Daz Gallery has so much positive going for it and that's why it KILLS me that it's having problems that should be addressed. There's something incredible about almost each and every image whether it's someones first post, or someone figured out how to do dForce, etc. I want to get in there and support 10, 20+ images a day but they've unwittingly made it nearly impossible to have the time to do so. Happy artists mean they buy more content to do more art! It's a win for the Daz group to improve things.
I just ran some timings:
34.56 seconds to load the gallery page to where I can even scroll up/down
33:55 seconds loading "Newest" tab so I can support/see what's new
15.75 seconds waiting for Alondra's Burrow (by BellaDark) to load
2.3 seconds waiting for heart to turn red after clicking the heart
15.24 seconds waiting for my comment to post to her
-------
1:41.40 seconds of time waiting for supporting JUST ONE SINGLE IMAGE!
-- If I log out here are the timings --
2:07 seconds to load the gallery page to where I can even scroll up/down
1.85 seconds loading "Newest" tab so I can support/see what's new
0.90 seconds to load One Less Bot by TraceSL
The variance in delay is staggering! 15-25 times slower once you log in!
I am on a fiber connection with 100GB download and 100GB upload speeds connected by ethernet for these timings.
I agree, I was amazed about degree of positivity and supportive atmosphere in general in the gallery (on the forum as well) when I just started and it really motivated me. I really like the Daz community and a lot of the people here. I think it is such a precious thing for a company and customers to have, that it is kind of heartbreaking when I see people getting frustrated by things not working properly and without acknowledgement by someone who can do someting about it.
I get this must be quite frustrating @junk, those numbers look really bad and it seems the galley is just not functional for you at this moment. I appreciate your presence very much over there and I am sure I'm not the only one.
Have you heard anything back on the ticket you submitted?
:) Thank you for saying BlueFingers and at this point I have not heard back from them. The support is top notch and, like Kibosh said, probably overwhelmed as they are a smaller group. So, I have all the faith that they will get back and have some answers. It just might be a few weeks out... but we'll see. The more people that send the same complaint, I'm sure they'll act on it faster.
I am wondering if the issues you are experiencing have anything to do with the issues described in this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/515446/this-site-is-getting-as-slow-as-molasses-in-january-again
I currently do not experience any noticable slowness, and my internet connection.is really not that good.
Thank you for looking into this BlueFingers. I read through the forum post just a little and I see differences in that they are saying "Cloudfare" errors, and slow downs in the forums and various places. I too experienced that back then but they seemed to have resolved them.
However, Kibosh and I seem to agree that it is 100% in the Daz Gallery only. And Logging out, speeds it up, logging back in slows it down. Even after the test I posted yesterday, I logged back in to be greated with slow downs in just the gallery section. About two hours later that night I showsed my wife the difference between logged in and logged out to see the same incredibly long delays. Logging out she saw the 1, 2 second responses versus the 40 seconds while logged in.
The gallery seems to get slower and slower. I didn't have too much of a slow down before, but it's becoming a bit of a pain to work with for me now too. I can only imagine how bad it is for folks with more images or who gave more likes (I haven't worked with Daz as long as most of you).
The bug concering the likes.also seemed to have reappeared, my Alice Fudd and Maid Preparing Lunch both had 60+ likes and now are both down significantly.
Has anyone heard from Daz if the gallery will be fixed or worked on at all?
EDIT: I also seem not to be able to reply to certain comments, haven't found any reason for this. The reply buttons just doesn't work in some cases.
They are doing work on the gallery atm.
Okay, that could explain it, good to know.
I like visiting the gallery to view people's renders but it is very slow indeed.
