Many of us, who actually understand the programs Studio and DIM along with the content system, have tried to help. Stop showing the Products view, it isn't helpful. Search your library drive with Windows Explorer for the files. If the files really are not there it is because you did something. It is possible but not very likely that if you got an update for whatever bundle or lesson the chamber was included it could have corrupted the file.
Do you get anything if you go to https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files , type Staging into the filter box, and press the return key?
One final and IMO drastic thing to try is letting Studio go on-line then load one of the scenes that uses it and see if Connect will offer to download it.
I just found it on sale and purchased it to silence all of this. I do feel mixed emotions, because of the principals involved. What kind of takeaway can DAZ get from this? No idea. This thread might as well be closed at this point. Thanks for everyone's input.
Did you actually check the product library, though? You'd shown pictures only of the Daz Studio Content Library.
Please do bear in mind that no one posting here has access to your account - as was suggested earlier, if you wished to get Daz to look at this you needed to open a support ticket.
I looked into every single place all of you told me to look and it was not there. You're yelling at me for not looking, but I did. It simply was not there. Only in that one spot, I kept showing you. You're beating me up needlessly.
Sorry, but you didn't post a screen shot of the Product Library or specifically mention checking it, just the screen shot of the Content Library in Daz Studio.
As I said initially the Staging Chanber has never been part of the Starter Essentials but it may have been part of something like one of the free tutorial bundles; all I can again suggest is opening a support ticket to see if they can help (and then give a refund for the order you just placed).
I am sorry if you feel we were * beating you up * we only tried to help.
As I said, I have this product in DIM, Smart Content and Content library.
It shows as purchased on the product page.
Why would DAZ only remove yours and note for anyone else, that does not make sense.
Besides, DAZ can not just remove products from your PC.
If there was an update I would have seen it in DIM, so that can not be a reason either.
I would still open a support ticket for tech support, they might be able to she light on this and you be able to get a refund.
To see all of the screenshots I sent earlier you have to scroll back to page one of this thread. I'll put them here again. Additionally, someone, I can't mention or they will kick this post, said the following, "
Do you get anything if you go to https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files , type Staging into the filter box, and press the return key."
I did that and there was nothing there. As I said, I went ahead and bought this on sale a few days ago after giving it up. Now, it does show up there. The purchase date was 8-24-21. So, how did I have it for well over a year. Then It dawned on me that something similar happened with the freebie "Dolly," which I never used for anything but took it anyway. Later, it disappeared as well. If Staging Chamber was a freebie at some point then they should not be TAKING IT AWAY! In the not-PC-age of our parents that would be called an "indian-giver."
Apparently, I now have two pet peeves: When DAZ takes away their free stuff and acts like they don't know what I'm talking about and the many-times-cursed Lost & Found.
You keep saying that Daz took this product away, but they did not.
I have already said that I have the Staging Chamber too and it is still in my DIM, it is in my Smart Content and it is in my Content Library and also here in my Product Library ready for download.
So no, Daz did not take it away, this has to be an error on your side.
It shows, for me, as purchased on the product page.
Freebies also show as purchased on the product page.
Why does it not show as purchased for you does not make sense either.
Daz can not take anything away from your pc.
If you got it as a freebie or purchased it should be in your Daz Studio, DIM, Smart Content and Content Library and show as purchased on the product page, for you.
You have nothing to be angry about with Daz because they have not done anything wrong.
if it was accidentally included in another product it can be removed with an update of that product, I have experienced this, why is it a secret?
An update cannot remove files on the computer. We know thisfrom at least one broken product that had bad files and where told we to had un-install and delete the old installer before downloading and running the new installer.
It can if they are part of the product, and still in their default location. But that would be a product update that would affect all users of the product. Daz can of course remove an item from the order history, usually following a refund request but there have beena few cases where it has happened for other reasons (e.g. the incorrectly free Pro Bundles when they first rolled out the ability to buy a bundle discounted for any items already owned) but there is no facility to uninstall content as far as I am aware.
Has Daz done that? Most of the people posting to this thread have no connection to Daz, and I have been trying to narrow down what has happened. Daz responses would be replies to your support ticket - and they might be able to figure out why you had the Staging Chamber in the first place and then, I'd hope, would be able to restore it 9and now would be able to refund the order you placed).
installer or DAZ install manager DIM?
DIM quite happily removed dachshund from Dog 8 with an update when it was accidently included with another breed
ON BOTH MY COMPUTERS
I did a compare between data from my Product Library captured just before the store update, and the current data. 4 out of 18900+ products were missing, neither showing up in Product Library nor DIM. Based on purchase date I managed to find them all in the Orders sections though, which proves that I do own them.
Others checking the same items did have them in DIM and their Product Library so apparently it's an individual account problem and not a general product problem. I imagine that others may have certain products gone missing from their libraries too, after the store update. Mine are rather old though (SKU 6891, 5612, 12962, 14895) so possibly it may affect older items only.
On your case the morph was removed when the file where it was, was updated to correct version, no files were removed.
The filename and the name of the morph are usually same or related, but they dont have to be.
If I have two figures, Benjamin and Tommy with character files Benjamin.dsf and Tommy.dsf, change the name of Tommy.dsf to Benjamin.dsf and include the renamed file in Benjamin's installation files, it will load a dial for Tommy not Benjamin.
When the Benjamin.dsf will be updated with the correct content, the morph dial "Tommy" will disappear but still no files have been removed from the computer.
Thanks all. I bought the thing on sale to replace the freebie I no longer really had-- apparently. The same happened to "Dolly," but I didn't replace it. Beware of freebies, is all I can say.
Had you opened a ticket, and received a reply? if not you don't know how daz would/will handle this.
Did iy remove a product, or did it remove fiels from the main Dog 8 product? The latter is certainly possible, the former not as far as I am aware (and the former is probably relevant here).
it removed the morph
which would have been from the base product I assume
I never found out how it came to be there, I thought maybe with Benji but unsure
I am not fond of dachshunds so never bought it and was not disappointed about losing the bonus at all
the point being an update can fix files installed, I often have the issue of editing textures and updates replacing my edits (mostly because I add alpha to original png files for other softwares)
Now I am guessing Staging Chamber landed in the correct place for John and his scenes open now he bought it
but if not it could have been accidently included with something else and could also explain not finding the files, we will never really know
I was only disputing the assertion others keep making that DIM cannot delete files, if it installed them it can delete them and an update is one case that can happen without deliberate intervention by the user
DAZ could (if they wanted to) release an update to remove a product from everyone's libraries,
is unlikely and would not go unnoticed would be an outcry
I can imagine a senario it could happen though if a major intellectual property violation occurred or something and they refunded everyone and did damage control, obviously that would also rely on trust and goodwill of users as many manually download, like a product recall, so far users have kept stuff pulled but if it were something potentially litigious the mechanics exist.
It wouldn't be without user intervention - DIM won't install updates without being told to - but yes, fiels within a product can be removed. However, a product itself can't be uninstalled by an update (it can be removed from the order hsitory, which would remove it from Ready To Download if there was no local copy) and although an update could in principle remove every single file from a product that wouldn't remove the product itself, and would affect all users with that product.
I agree that one possibility is that the Staging Chamber files were included with a separate product for some reason, and may now have been removed - by accident or design. If so then that is where support should be able to investigate and resolve or explain the issue.
Removing a morph that has been placed inside a wrong file in error is something completely different than removing actual files from the storage media, and as was pointed earlier in this thread, DIM was not even able to remove mispaced textures of an original installation with an update, how could it remove anything else with an update?
At some point the "Staging Chamber" has been free for a select group of customers and they got the offer with a banner, there are messages here at the forums about it, so that is not the question.
John had it installed on his computer as can be seen from the pictures he posted, so that's not the question either.
There has been cases where people have had products disapper from their account, and they have gotten the products back after talking with DAZ, not the question either
The question was, where had the product gone, but we couldn't get the information to track down what had happened and now that is not even possible anymore as the product has been installed again.
I did have some ideas, but would have needed answers to figure out, which branch of the "tree" to follow with subsequent questions, but...
MYSTERY SOLVED! Way back when I started with DAZ and I received "Staging Chamber" as part of a free package within my installation, which was on my main hard drive. In all cases, my products were downloaded and installed using DIM, then Content Library-- when needed. Since that time, I've had to reinstall everything about a dozen times for various reasons, either of my own choosing or from DAZ advice. In only one instance I manually installed something, but have that file safely backed up (It wasn't "Staging Chamber"). At no time did I NOT have some file representation in my "Account" Orders List that showed what I owned, for re-installation. Then came the big move of changing my "Content" to an external hard drive. Again, the usual re-installation. I did not save the downloaded files (I know, some of you are tut-tutting). I did have issues with duplicated files, so one of your kind people (If I say WHO this post will get deleted, but that person knows who he is) walked me through the process of dealing with the duplicate files. Also, we tried to eliminate all but the DIM-installed files, which didn't work in all cases. NOW, back to the topic at hand. During all of this time, at some point, the "Staging Chamber" files disappeared. They only appeared as a broken footnote within the Content Library list. Freebie packages did not list "Staging Chamber" at all. So, here we are. I can't wait forever for my DAZ ticket to come to some kind of resolution, because I simply don't want to wait that long. I bought "Staging Chamber" for $5.86 on sale and re-installed it as a stand-alone. Since I left the 'footnote' in the Content Library everything went right back into place. What is to be learned by all of this? You tell me.
Clearly because people are being asked to accept something that falls outside of what they believe. Until they witness it for themselves they will never believe it.
I can totally believe that Daz can remove something that wasn't supposed to be installed because I've seen it happen. When I first installed Daz3D, there was a morph I applied in my first scene (I forget what it was called, some athletic looking type) and within a few weeks it mysteriously vanished. Gone without a trace.
Apparently, that's what happened to me. SO, THAT SAID (along with everything else said) why can't DAZ simply look at what I had provided early on (screenshots and descriptions) in the investigation and simply say, "Clearly, you don't have it and it's not part of any bundle we can account for. I'm guessing it was a mistake. But, we DO see that you DID have it, so... here's what we can do for you for the inconvenience and frustration..."
Again, you have not beena dressing Daz - you have been addressing other users, and the forum team. If you wanted to address Daz you needed to open a ticket. No one here can check your order history, or make you any kind of offer.
Again, an update can remove files from a product if the user chooses to install it. But there is no way to selectively remove files from some users that way, since the product package is the same for everyone, and no way to remove an entire product, and no way to trigger the process remotely if the user does not opt to install the updated product version.
God knows DAZ Studios can use improvements! Start with a better connection between DIM and DAZ Studios for better installations. You and I already had this discussion elsewhere, and I believe this may have something to do with the "Staging Chamber" thing I just went through.
