DAZ Central - M1 Mac Big Sur - anyone having any luck
I was so excited to get the email "Mac is back"
I went to download DAZ Central onto my M1 mini (16GB). I was a bit miffed that I had to log in to DAZ3d, then log in while logged in to download DAZ Central using the credentials I was already logged in with, but that's in the past. DAZ is back on the Mac. Then I could download the software so that I could download the software that would download the software to my Mac. Finally.
Now I could run the software that would run the software on my mac (does any of this seem a tad convoluted to anyone but me)?
Only, it doesn't seem to work. The only thing I can render is in the "Force quit Application Window" which shows DAZ Central (not responding).
I tried updating all my plugins.
I tried rebooting.
There really isn't much else. There is only the one processor, operating system, and video card on an M1 system. The only other RAM option is lower. I have plenty of storage space. So, what is the trick to get this to work?

Where did you read that DAZ Central had been updated?
DIM was updated to work on BigSur to allow downloading and installation of the DS beta (which you still have to 'buy')
Daz Central does not install betas anyway, so yes you need to use Install Manager. https://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/
I just clicked the link on the email from DAZ that said DAZ Studio compatible with Mac OS Big Sur and M1 Macs.
It took me to the DAZ Central and said download this. I did, and wound up with this issue. I haven't paid much attention to DAZ while it wouldn't run on my system.
Thanks for pointing me to the Beta, now I can open Studio (but it cant find the content that is RIGHT THERE Arrrgghhhhhh!)
But you're right. It was foolishly naive of me, thinking the link that anounced Mac OS Big Sur Compatibility would take me to the application that was Big Sur compatible. You know you've spent too much time on a Mac when you just expect things to work. I don't even wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher anymore. I just expect them to come out clean. If I get to the point where I think a smart home will actually work, I will seek out a therapist.
How weird. I have this email here in front of me and it tells you to use DIM, it hat this great big clickable button that gets you to another great big clickable button you can download DIM from. You actually have to scroll down on that page and click on one of the DAZ Central ads instead to get DAZ Central.
So my email looks like the image below, and if I click on the link that says "Get the latest beta release," (highlighted in red), it takes me to DAZ central. Is that the email you have?
Scroll down. The DIM information and link are toward the bottom. The main body has the generic, trackable, Get Daz! page link.

Yeah, I found it after someone pointed me to the beta. I just thought it odd that "Get the Beta" didn't take you to the beta.
Dropped Aiko 6 into a blank scene with default render settings, and it was a shade over 1 minute to render. M1, 16GB, and the internal SSD
Lray is on, photoreal 1800x1200 window
3Delight is about 3-4 seconds on the same scene and only changing the renderer
Interesting that rendering a second time seems faster than the first for both engines.
Why Aiko 6? It was the first bit of content I found. I open the library and click something, and it says 'not found/does not exist.' I right click and say open location, then drag that very same file into the scene, and it works. This looks like a permissions issue.
It is working as far as I can tell.
M1 MacBook Pro Update.
Hi Everyone who is also searching this forum for results on the performance of DazStudio Pro and the new M1 Max and MacBook Pros that were just released. Tested DazStudio (latest version 4.15) that will run on the M1 SoC processors. I can tell you in short, that the hardware is there but the software cannot take advantage of any of it. In rendering iRay, it defaults to CPU rendering and ONLY recognizes 8 cores for now. Any additional cores available are completely wasted and not seen or recognized. The GPU cores do not even show up.
That being said, this was done on a MacBook Pro 14 inch with 10 core CPU, 14 core GPU, 512 Gb SSD and 16 Gb RAM. The installer for DAZstudio Pro needed Rosetta to be installed. Not sure if the app itself was running under Rosetta. Everything abou the user experience was snappy but it was no where near a descreet video card performance for rendering. Still light years faster than Intel Iris integrated graphics and on par with Nvidia 1000 series video cards but if you're looking for some serious work to be done (at least in the near term), you will be better served to get a dedicated PC running Windows with an Nvidia GPU card unless you got some serious extra cash lying around to burn.
IF DAZ3D's software developement team is able to resolve the issue of getting their app to recognize and utilize the GPU cores in the new MacBook Pro's, this could be potentially a game changer. So, in summary, the software now has to catch up with the hardware but that's the $3500 question looming. Can anyone justify that kind of investment to sit and wait on "potential"
REMINDER:
This should not devolve into a platform bashing discussion. Hardware is hardware regardless of manufacturer or OS. It just has to work and fulfill budget limitations. Right now, Windows has the advantage in 3D Rendering work because of sofware maturity and the engagement from video card developers. MacOS can be a very viable solution for others if the majority of their workflow solutions are on that computing platform.
I will try to update this comment as DazStudio Pro and the M1 Pro processors mature.

Daz does not develop Iray, Nvidia does. There's nothing Daz can do about Iray using the GPU cores.
