Creating OUTLINES - Surfaces?

Given the recent DAZ Blog post about creating outlines I have started investigating the use of the Scripted 3Delight render engine and the Outline render script.  I believe I have discovered a few problems with using them.  To start, I open DAZ and verify that the Render Engine selected is NOT listed as Scripted 3Delight, then I load each figure (G1F, G1M, G2F, G2M, G3F, G3M, G8F & G8M).  Next I look at the SURFACES for each of the figures and I see the following:

  1. Figures G1F, G1M, G2M & G3M all have surfaces that are void of any Parameters for Outline IDs or Material IDs.
  2. Figure G2F has all surfaces with an Outline Parameter already provided, before running the Outline Script.
  3. Figure G3F has all surfaces with an Outline Parameter already provided, before running the Outline Script, however, the Outline Parameter is found in two different locations under each surface, either under the GENERAL path or under an OUTLINE path.
  4. Figure G8F & G8M has all surfaces with an Outline Parameter already provided, before running the Outline Script, however, the Outline Parameter is now split between the OUTLINE path (Outline Depth) and the GENERAL path (Material ID).

It is my understanding that the OUTLINE Parameter should not normally be present on any figure’s surfaces, only after you run the Outline Script does the OUTLINE Parameter get added to the surfaces.  Also, it is odd that the OUTLINE Parameter is found under the GENERAL Path on some surfaces as they should all be listed under the OUTLINE Path.

Perhaps this is just my machine causing these problems.  Can someone please verify my findings?  I have submitted a help desk ticket.  Thanks!

Try apply ds default shader *  the 3delight ones   not iray uber base and see if your figures still have Outline/Material ID like you`ve mentioned .

I think figure with more advanced shader loaded as default have different parameter and setup  . try change your shader with DZ Default shader which you can find in /ShaderPreset/DS Default

And what exactly the problem you have with those  MAT ID /Color ID differences between figures ? When creating preset or something else? I`ve been rendering outline since DAZ 4.8 and rarely have a problem with it

Juvesatriani, by fiddling with things I can definetly get the Outlines to work, one way or another.  Just seems strange that some figures have the Outline ID parameters already setup on surfaces and some are in the wrong place.  DAZ really should be consistent with these things.  Still wondering if my findings are unique to my machine or if it is a DAZ issue.

BTW, I normally apply the DAZ Default Shader to all surfaces which does help to elminate undesired maps, though transparency maps often are still needed for hair, vegetation, etc.

  • G1 Figure loaded using DS Default , G2 with OmUberSurface . G3 with AoA Shader and G8 with IrayUber Base . So its possible those shader set have different setup

I suspect those change to compensate  "realistic render output" just as most DAZ users wanted

If you want to convert IRAY to 3delight try this free script  Its keep transparency map . As long the objects using IRAY UBER BASE as shader not using special IRAY shaders like OOT Hair shader and 4 Layers etc
