SOLVED - How to Make Skin Texture Darker?

How could I make a skin texture darker?  There's like way too many sliders in the iRay Surfaces tab for me to figure it out.  I've tried for 4 hours.  The skin texture I have is already light brown.  I want to keep this texture because the eyebrows are perfect and the skin texture is perfect and the texture fits the model perfectly.  I just want to darken the skin (see attached photos) from Evi to Aniyah. - without getting weird red or green or yellow tones in the process.

  • There are two ways in iRay I can think of immediately. 1) Change the diffuse base colour from white to a darker grey, and do the same value grey for the glossiness and specularity. That should work. 2) Apply a negative emissivity to the skin, of (to begin with) -1500 lumens/m^2 . That will darken the skin by sucking light away. It will tend to emphasise skin-skin ambient occlusion too, which may or may not be good. If it's not dark enough, increase the level of negative emissivity by -1500 each trial.

That's a pretty drastic change. You may lose all the natural highlighting of the skin. If that don't work it may require a retexture or some fancy work within Photoshop or Gimp whichever photo editing software you use.

You can increase the Surfaces/Skin-Lips-Nails/Base/Diffuse/Translucency to make it closer to 1.00. This has its limits, but its effective.

change the Translucency Weight to a higher number for darker skins

man, that Aniyah figure looks great. I was never impressed with Darcy, but I now need to pick her up to get the Aniyah figure working as well.

I give up.  I'm just going to use the Aniyah skin without the eyebrows, then use some Photoshop surgery to isolate the eyebrows from the Evi texture and apply those.

That's what I do too - alter the translucency to go either lighter or darker (remember to do the lips and nails too).

The Evi image has a caption claiming she's "chubby". That's not my idea of chubby by a long way!

So if a woman has literally any body fat at all, she's chubby?

By non N. American standards, many would say yes to the proportions in the image above. I have a Chinese co worker and he can't believe how most of the people he sees here are considered obese to him compared to what he grew up with in China. I have had a lot of relationships, lots of shapes and sizes, just personal tastes for me. My GF is around 5'7 at around 125, small butt, implants and athletic frame, so that is what I am used to.

Changing the translucency strength to a higher number (generally) only works with skins with monochromatic sss (this is typically G3 skin). It can work to an extent on chromatic skin, but to extremes, you'll either end up with too much red, or too much grey. Honestly...when using a chromatic skin, such as 99.9% of skins that come with G8 and G8.1 figures, if you need to darken it and don't have the skill and/or time to darken the diffuse texture in photoshop, your best bet is just finding a darker skin to suit your needs. Darkening skin via shader tweaks can only yield so much success before it looks unatural. The same can be said for lightening.
