Riversofts M4/V4 to Genesis 8 question

I've been putting it off for a bit, as I didn't think I'd go back into my MV4 wardrobe. Yet I would like to try and use the items I have from Xurge and possibly purchase new stuff from them. But I was wondering if anyone has converted any of Xurge3D's clothing items made for MV4 to Genesis 8 or even 3. Does it convert ok or is it something that will make me pull my hair out? If he'd just create for the Genesis family... :)

Thanks in advance.

A few items using Autofit, firstly for Genesis 8 than Genesis

    Fantasy Ranger

    HEVS

    Imperator

Don't know if Riversoft's item would be better than autofit.....

I do have most of these converters. Surprisingly sometimes auto fit does a better job. What these converters offer are the extra morphs added to the converted clothing item (but IIRC no such extra morphs for G3 to G8 conversion). These extra morphs are handy when you need to have some minor fixes to the converted clothing items.

Wow!! Thanks Buny for your images!! I just never tried the clothing on any higher Genesis figure. In fact I've never pulled out the MV4 wardrobe probably because I knew shoes were always a pain to fit on the next character and there was a loss of morphs for movement. But Xurge did and still does make some nice looking fantasy/SciFi armor sets that it's making me "wish" I could use them. I guess I was holding out for him to finally start making for Genesis family. He's stubborn :)

Thank you CHWT for answering. Added morphs is nice since during the conversion movement is lost and there are some nice clothing items from the older family that it's heartbreaking to look back and see since starting this in 2004, the HUGE wardrobe and not to mention how much money was spent. crying

Edit: I have thrown in the towel. I have bought both M4 and V4 conversion scripts and I can't get it to work. After using it, my autofit has cease to work even after a restart. I tried to follow the instructions [it's very wordy] and the script kept asking me to locate the OBJ files [I don't recall seeing the OBJs on the example image. Just a mass of different products, why couldn't they just show an example of converting 1 clothing set instead of half their catalog?!] and then it would load the item onto G8 in the V4 start pose and I have next to no patience as it is so I stopped before I put my fist into my monitor.  I closed out Studio and restarted, brought in G8 and loaded each clothing item from the lower tier genesis family and it all converted fine with Autofit now coming back. I am running the newest Studio so that's probably a bit of the problem as I've had it just completely disappear shut down while in the middle of working on something or in a render without any kind of error message.

That's weird. I had no problem using the M4 converter. Perhaps you have to check whether you clicked the figure (IIRC you have to load a G8 figure first) and you have to select the correct output folder (same as other G8 clothing). And for auto fit to G8, actually M4 and V4 items are listed as 'unsupported', so when the auto fit dialogue appears, just select 'unsupported' and see how it goes (sometimes the result are not so good so you might think that nothing happened). If the problem persists, you may wish to ask Riversoft at the product thread at the forum.

Okay @Nosiferret I just used the Riversoft M4 to G8M converter script again and wrote down the steps as below:

Step 1: Clear the scene and load G8M

Step 2: With G8M selected, run the M4 to G8M converter script. Click OK when the 'warning' pops up.

Step 3: Set the output directory (under Output Directory in the Convert tab) to be the same folder as ALL other G8M clothing (e.g. People/Genesis 8 Male/Clothing)

Step 4: Add files (under Add Clothing in Convert tab), select the .cr2 files of those clothing items you wish to convert

Step 5: Select whatever conformer you think has the closest shape to your clothing item to be converted (though I just usually leave it as 'Bodysuit' unless the clothing item really is a cape/coat/dress/loincloth)

Step 6: Click again to highlight those items you wish to convert listed under Clothing Item Files (in Convert tab) and then click Convert Items at the bottom of Convert tab

Step 7: if nothing happened (i.e. the clothing item does not appear in your G8M clothing directory), with the clothing items to be converted all highlighted, click Force Convert Items at the bottom of Convert tab

Step 8: Select General Weight Mapping and click Accept when the pop-up dialog box appears (the dialog box pops up for every clothing item)

The converted clothing items should now be in the G8M clothing directory and ready for use, though some converted items might have texture issues that you need to in the DAZ Studio Surface tab manually locate the diffuse/bump/specular maps

I tried it out on some .cr2 files, and it's hit or miss, some files convert, some don't.

When I compared the two cases, I noticed that the .cr2 files that failed referenced multiple objects (hair, body, etc..).  It doesn't like multi-object .cr2 files?  So, I did a little editing, and I removed all other refereces except one object, and it finally worked.

So, the ones that work well are usually .cr2 files that only reference a single object.
