Flink's Sky and its .jpg alternatives in DAZ Studio

I've used Flink's Sky in Poser. When installed in Poser, it offers a default sky residing in the Props library and 22 alternative .jpg skies residing in the Materials library. Double click any one of those and it will replace the default sky.

I've managed to install the product in DAZ Studio. The default sky loads without problems, but I can't find the means to replace the default sky with any of those alternatives. I've diligently searched the Surfaces pane but to no avail. Has any one any ideas please? Thank you very much.

  • if you go to the surface>base>and click search ...it should take you to the folder where the default sky jpg is and most likely the alternates are in the same place and you should just be able to replace the default with one of them ... if they're not it the same folder probably in runtime>textures>flinks>skies or such.

Did you try the Materials folder under Poser Formats in the Content Library pane?

Thanks for the suggestions, Alan Bard and jestmart. Unhappily, I had no luck. The alternative skies do not reside in the same folder as the default sky and DAZ Studio presents an empty Materials folder. There are files in the Materials folder, but they are .mt5 files. DAZ Studio does not recognize .mt5 material files. It does recognize .mc6 material files, but not .mt5 material files. (sigh) Still, thanks for the replies, they are appreciated.

Just replace them manually, take a look inside the original zip file you installed and you will see where the images are stored.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm trying to say that they do not appear in the DAZ Studio Content Library and subsequently cannot be replaced manually. I have looked inside the original zip file and I know exactly where they are stored. Simply, I cannot access them successfully in DAZ Studio. Worse, I'm absolutely stumped as to how to load a .jpg image using the Surfaces pane.

I own Fink's Sky 2 product.  To manually change the sky texture, go to the Surfaces Tab and select the Finks Sky prop.  On the Diffuse Color channel, click on the arrow and select Browse.  A window will popup where the textures are stored.  Double click on one to load an alternate texture.

The Fink's Sky 2 product includes 22 texture files.

If you don't see any other texture, check the installer file's runtime folder for the location of the textures.

Load each texture and save a Daz Studio .duf material preset:  File>Save As>Material(s) preset

Thank you so very much, Lindsey. I would never have thought to try the Diffuse Color channel. And saving the texture as a material is a splendid idea. I owe you a beer or two. It works like a charm. I couldn't be more pleased.

Happy to be of assistance, you should also save the Sky Dome in native DS .duf file format using Save as>Support Asset>Figure/Prop Assets and add it to your newly created Material Presets folder.

  • That sounds a great idea. Thanks again. I am a little surprised that DAZ Studio Surfaces doesn't seem to have a more obvious means of accessing and loading an image so a user can apply it to a surface. But such is life. I really appreciate it. Stay safe until it's over.
