Dformer parts?

in The Commons
I've been using Dformers for a bit in DAZ Studio but I only really understand just a bit about them. I know the dformer has 3 parts to it. The Base, D-former, and field. I know that the field adjusts how much of the figure the d-former will affect. And I know the d-former actually makes the adjustments. But I don't quite understand about the base. The base seems a little like the field but not quite. I also know that the base default location is the center of the un-posed figure. But why would you want to move the base apart from the field?
Thanks,

The base lets you scale the dFormer without affecting the mesh, but its functional siginificance doesn't show until you use the dForm to scale or rotate - the base defines the centre point for those operations.
