Looking for realistic trickling or water droplets on skin effect.

Hello all,

As the subject title says, I am looking for a trickling or water droplet effect that I can put on a Genesis 8 figure skin.   As of now, I only have an effect that shows the skin 'glistening' as if on the onset of persperation, but I want something more detailed to show droplets of sweat beading and running down the skin.   I have come across this item here:

https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-wet-body-iray

And this looks pretty good for whole body coverage, but I also would like to do something, like say pour a glass of water somewhere on the body (such as the crux of a woman's chest) and show the fluid trickling down the skin.  While the above pack comes with "decal" droplets, they are far from realistic looking.    Also I like to be able to control areas of the body to show more sweat in some areas than others.   Yes, I know the Genesis figure has body zones, and I have tried to "dial in" effects in certain areas, it sadly has a brick wall effect and say (for example) if I had the torso look more sweaty than the arms, there is a 'brick wall' effect from one to the other and it doesn't look realilstic.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Geo

While I would ultimately like the look of someone that is heavily sweating or just have come out of the water

Maybe you have a look at Fluidos II and Soto's Real Drops
  • I've been on a quest for realistic looking wet skin effects for awhile and have gotten what I would call good, not great, results so far. I find the geometry shells to be the easiest to use but are tricky about lighting them well. Of the geo shells I have used, the ones in these products are my favorites.

    https://www.daz3d.com/long-wet-hair-with-dforce-for-genesis-8

The short hair has two different shells, a light and heavy effect.

I like the product you listed above, but is a lot of work to get the best image with. In a single render it tends to look really good or really bad. I've gotten the best results by rendering a separate layer and compositing in the areas or drops that look good and removing the parts that don't. If you go this route, cull ruthlessly. wink

This might help with the shader adjustments to the figures skin.

I recently started using some of the water post work brushes by deviney in GIMP, with some very good outcomes.

Also see the water effect props by Sickleyield.

I took a peek at those, and while the droplets look good with Soto's Real Drops, the problem is that they are just that they look as if they are not affected by gravity.   Not really what I am after as I wanted to show not only droplets but how it runs down the body, like the example I presented.   Fluidos 2 looks OK, but that price will keep most people away.

    Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

The water shader tutorial looks pretty good and I am familiar with creating a perspiring skin surface by using the glossiness and roughness parameters under the Surfaces tab.  So that seems to be an extention of that.   The brushes might help for creating something more localized, like what I was initialy after.  I want to create the effect of spilling water on a small localized area of the body, but naturally, I am looking for something quick and easy to use and perferably within Daz.  I will look at Sickleyield's page as there is much there to look at.

    Thanks,

    Geo

Fluidos emulates the movement of water and thus you can get exactly the desired effect you want with an investment of time. There is a trail and error learning curve to setup the flow rate and particle size. So for example pouring from a glass,  hitting a surface splashing around and flowing down a slope all based on physics. Its certainly worth the investment.

This one is nice too, thanks! Looks on-par with Linday's wet skin shader in Short Wet Hair.

Looks pretty impressive for a freebie!  Very much on par with the one package I pointed out above.  Thanks!

  • Sorry to comment this on a dead thread... But perhaps you could try animating a water texture through LIE. Might be a bit tedious but worth a shot.
