What are Product Updates?

I use the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) to install content.  When I open DIM I get a list of PRODUCT UPDATES that I am supposedly to install.  What EXACTLY does the PRODUCT UPDATE do to the content I have already installed?  What's being updated?  Most of the products that have PRODUCT UPDATEs seem to be working perfectly fine as it is.  I have a fear that if I update a product, it may not work anymore, or it may look different - as with skin shaders.  Some character's skin shaders are PERFECT as is.  I don't want an update to change the look of the character's skin.  What happens to the product if I don't update it?

Thanks!

Click the circled "i" next to the product. If the ReadMe exists, there should be an explanation of the change under "Resolved Issues". Take that "should be" with a grain of salt, though. Only recently have comments started re-appearing, but not all ReadMe's provide the info. You can ask about a a particular update, someone else will surely have it, and might share their experiences. Updates are supposed to improve a product, but if you have had bad experiences, you can take steps to protect your library.

For yourself, you can save a copy of the original package somewhere else before downloading the updated version. If it is problematic, you can always restore the previous package by deleting the new one and its manifest, copy the old one back, and refresh DIM. The old one will be ready to install, and the new version will be ready to download again.
