Face Transfer problems

Hi! I've been using Face Transfer for a while. To fiddle around with that, is among the best things I know. Nevertheless I recently became aware that the models I've been saving are missing files. More importantly, the files that separated them from the standard DAZ3D models e.g. the skin and facial features. Those files are completely and utterly gone. Apparently Face Transfer by default saves them to a temporary file folder within the appdata folders. Then, when you restart the next morning to pick up where you left, they're gone. I tried a number of "saves", among them to save the model in question as a character preset. Saw that tip on a Jay Wersluis tutorial at YouTube. Spent most of last day working on a model, trying to get it as close to the real person as possible. This went on for hours upon hours. When done, I saved it as a character preset and also as a scene. After opening the model this morning, I got the message that files were missing. Her face was pale blue. Didn't do anything to try to paste another skin onto that pale blue face. It remained blue, as were the ears.

Does anyone of you have a tip on how to save my work permanently?

    Well it's been awhile since I read through it all however how to save the morphs etc certainly were covered in my little tutorial which I wrote when FT first came out.

    Sharecg.com link

    Basically FT is very dedicated to that saved file it makes and all changes we make get tossed as you've discovered. So certainly do the save via the FT dialog. Then find where it has saved the textures and apply them to a fresh load of the base figure {not the FT figure}. Save the mat file. {use eyes from some other character too, FT eyes tend to be not as nice}. For the morph, instructions are in the tutorial on how to make a new morph from the FT figure which can then be applied to any load of the base figure.

    Once you have all the pieces saved, then you can put together your new character and save out the character file or whatever you wish.

    n.b. the part I go over about swapping out textures is aimed more for those seeking to make their own skins with the goal of redistributing them. {'cause obviously we don't redistribute the textures from the base figures from Daz3D}

    Oh yes, and from wherever FT has saved the textures to for its saved subscene, those can be copied over to your own subfolders under Textures under Runtime under My Library BEFORE applying them to the new character.

    Thank you sooo much for this! This last year I've done so amazing models with Face Transfer just to find they're all gone. Maybe from now I'll be able to finish and keep them all together. Huge thanks!

    When you create your new face, make sure you save it to a know directory not the default otherwise it only loads a grey character no textures, also I couldnt get this to work on the new genesis 8.1 model

  • AFAIK you need to use something like HeadShop 14 to make face morphs for Genesis 8.1.

    Thanks Catherine, that's correct.In addition to HeadShop 14.1, starting tomorrow, Sept 4 DAZ will also sell OneClick2022 which also supports Genesis 8.1 Base Male and Female figures - at a much lower price:-)
