Discovery on crashes changing to Iray view (moving content or clean install)
Finally after 11 years I sold my Mac 5,1 cheesegrater and invested in a (smokin') new machine. I updated my drivers, installed DS to try some comparisons from memory; but my immediate thrill turned into a fit of frustration when I found switching to Iray was crashing the system, not all the time, but most of the time on different projects I created.
turns out some of the Iray surfaces from Nvida are dependent on a path that needs to be set in the shader mixer window. If you are seeing this problem you may want to check your Shader Mixer paths. If you do have the shader mixer window open skip to the 2nd step.
If you don't have the shader mixer open: From the Windows menu in the Daz Studio title bar
Windows(Tabs) > Shader Mixer > Edit [the one in the Shader Mixer window] > MDL Directory Manager > [Expand] Base Directories > [Expand] Base Paths
click Add on the left hand pane and browse to your materials folder, it's usually named MDL and it's generally in your user folder under your account name.
I am now happy, but I'm also heavily medicated. It's a win/win.
Comments
Being heavily medicated makes everything better.
(Don't do drugs kids, michael jordan says so!)
But seriously...
I'd be interested to know if the shaders you're referring to are MDL's from Nvidia(or other sources), or specific materials from regular content
Basically, what was creating the error, if you know?
I went in and checked a couple of my default installs, and there's no paths in shader mixer.
