Script or DUF to link into old runtime props?
Sorry if an old stale topic - my searches showed nothing related. I literally have like 1000+ old DAZ items from V3/V4 days. Ignoring the V3/V4 clothes/hair items, I have a lot of old building or clutter props. Is there any clean 'official' way to place a JSON or script file in my normal "My Studio\Props" directory which DS displays as content & (ideally) links-to/loads the old .CR2 or .PP2 files?
If actually loading the prop is hard, can I just make an 'info' file with icon, which would at least REMIND my old tired brain that "Oh yah, I have the 'Industrial Generator NS" over in runtime libs? True, I can go browse into my Poser Runtime tree, but that is an extra step of many clicks which I often overlook.
This will also be usful, as occasionally I buy a 'new DAZ item' (often in a $0.99 sale), which turns out to live in runtime\libraries\Props, so kind of vanished from my radar!

Don't have a script, or a particually easy way, but you could always use Link files.
Left click an asset, or crtl+a to select a whole folder, Right click>Create link for asset.
A windows explorer will popup so you can select where to save the files.
I recommend creating a new folder and placing it at the top of your CDM list, as it defaults to what ever is at the top of the list.
Be aware that you do not want to move the link files in DS as this will just copy the original file, you'll need to move them around in explorer.
This is an expensive solution, but PzDB 1.3 and the free RSR to PNG Converter will do an excellent job of answering 'do l aready have that?' when at the Checkout. And PzDB 1.3 also indexes Daz files. If all you want to index is your 1000s of older Poser items (lucky you), then PzDB 1.2 is still available for about $20 and will save some cash. Visual previews, keyword search, a full MS Access based solution to finding stuff. Requires that you be online for the serial number check, so PzDb can't be used offline. You can drag and drop onto Poser and DAZ viewports, from the results.
Alternatively, Poser 11 Pro itself is just $80 now from NeoWin, and would give you a dedicated Poser Library for older content and lots more. Again, you'd want to run the free RSR to PNG Converter on your old runtime first, to ensure the thumbnails are there for you when you keyword search.
Since rigging has changed so much over the years, I just load in the prop(s) that I want, re-orient them to fit what they're supposed to ne parented to, parent it (them), and then save the new version of the prop for the correct figure - like Genesis 8, for example.
During this whole process, I also take the time to give the items Iray and Octane shaders. It's a win-Win in the long run.
When I want to do several items for safe keeping later, I get into a frenzy of loading, optimizing and saving and it gets really fast to do. The repetition just really makes the whole process go by quickly and I'm already saving to similar (if not the same) location in the library.
just read the poser file in and save as scene subset... I do that all the time to move items into the daz listing
There is a solution at Rendo, search for Runtime Links, works great.
The load and save sounds interesting, but can one merge or import DAZ files back into existing scenes? Or does the 'subset' solve this? That is one thing I miss from Poser - I could create Character with hair & jewelry etc, save without lights or back ground and then import 3 or 4 of them WHAM into a new scene. So far, what I've done with DAZ subset, is that they are really SUB-sets. so get a people but lose the hair & jewelry, etc. To me, this is a BIG flaw in the DAZ feature list!
I should experiment more with that. I'd not do 'everything' old, but there are clutter items (chem drums, gen-sets, shelves, trash on floor) I often use as FILL-IN. I suppose since power generators don't wear hair or earrings, the import weakness won't be a problem.
As for Poser, I already own Poser 7 & 8, plus Poser-Pro from 9 up to 11. I just don't like the 'Posettes' which come with Poser, so moved from A3, to A4, then G2F/V6 (didn't like A6 & skipped Gn phase). First release of Poser 11 worked with DSON-Import of G2F, but that broke during the first bug-fix, with Poser blaming DAZ and DAZ blaming Poser. Rolling back to PoserPro-10/2014 kept me going for a few years, but no new content was coming out for G2F, so my buying itch was burning! As for all the old products I own, I give myself about a $50 budget per month, and after 14 years (and a few weekly freebies at DAZ), one collects a LOT of STUFF! :-) Thank goodness I have a 6TB drive "F" - plus 6TB USB for backup! I no longer save anything to drive C or my USER directory, just install apps, so I can reformat C: at will & lose nothing I can't download again. I also gave up trying to 'backup' drive C:, because one can never reinstall Windows core or program files due to the way Windows assigns user-ids. Even with a commercial 'backup' program, Windows objected to the non-existant onwership from the backup.
