OT: RIP Willard Scott

Comments

  • I remember him from the 1970's when he was the local weatherman in Washington, DC when I lived there.

    Rest in Peace, Willard.

...aww man, I used to love Willard's weather segments.

They better be careful with Al Roker as I wasn't comfortable seeing him standing on the street in the French Quarter with all the wind, rain, and debris flying about as he's my age (67).

I knew he was a clown but I thought it was Bozo. Condolences.

    It was Bozo.

"In the 1960s, he also hosted children's television shows and appeared on WRC playing a range of characters, including Bozo the Clown. He became the first person to play Ronald McDonald and appeared in D.C. area commercials as the clown, according to “Today.

However, I keep getting him mixed up with Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan) who played Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy-Doody show.

  • And thus another figure I've grown up with, and took for granted as always being there has transistioned.  Television makes complete strangers so much a fixture in our lives losing them often feels like losing an actual relative.

Oh! Thanks. When I was a kid in Chicago we went to see Bozo (Bob Bell) & the Ringmaster (Ned Locke) with his "Grand. Prize. Game." once, but that was after Willard Scott was no longer Bozo. There was also Frazier Thomas that sometimes was with Bozo. I'll have to see what's on YouTube with that gang.
