[If iray doesn’t appear as a render option] Does that mean this new laptop of mine doesn't have a needed nvidia chip or something? My older lenovo ideapad 330s could render iray fine (not speedily obviously) in daz 4.15. Now I've loaded 4.5 on this new ideapad 3 and the iray engine doesn't appear as an option. I can't tell in the specs if it's a hardware chip issue or I'm just not doing something right in 4.5.

Hardware doesn't matter for that.
is it 64bit?
Iray needs a Nvidia Gragphics card
DS 4.5 is an older version of Daz Studio and doesn't have the Iray render engine yet. I believe Iray was introduced in version 4.8. Weird as it look, but DS 4.15 is newer than 4.5 (Daz logic)
DS 4.5 does not have Iray, the first DS with Iray was 4.8 and the most recent version is 4.15
good catch, I overlooked the lack of a 1, unless they meant to type 4.15
Oh ok here I thought I was loading a newer version. Thanks guys.
Daz logic that has been retroactively adopted by the rest of the software industry, with the dates of implementation fiddled to look as if other developers did it first. Daz has managed to keep the actions of its shape-shifting, time-travelling terminological agents secret.

Aye, thanks Richard! Makes sense. I retired from software development 20 years ago (exactly, on 9/11) so I'm a bit behind the times!
