Meet Silver-Boy my new pc
posting this becaue proud of myself and want to show off.
This is my first PC I’ve every built – I ran into a few problems but I’m really happy with how it turned out. A few years ago I saw an exhibit by Charles Ray with my nephews and that inspired me to try to do the same with a computer. Fortunately, I didn’t go with more accurate chrome mirror finish as I’m sure fingerprints would have been a nightmare and it would have been distracting and scratch prone. Instead I took the case to place that powdercoats car wheel rims and they gave a silver finish that looks amazing. My photos don’t due the finish justice – it looks as good as the finish on a new car plus it’s like a coat of armor – with all the loose screws I rubbed the parts against while building this I can’t believe there isn’t one scratch on the case.
The stats are: Lian Li 011 Mini Snow White Case with silver powder coating; Ryzen 7 3700X Processor; Gigabyte B550 Vision DP motherboard, 64MB G Skill TridentZ ram; Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 GPU with 12 GB; SeaSonic Focus SGX 650 W 80+ Gold Modular SFX power supply, Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 drive, Mushkin Pilot-E 2TB M.2 drive, Crucial MX500 2TB SSD, Samsung 850 Evo 1TB SSD (from old computer), Lian Li Galahad AIO cooler, nine Lian Li A120 white case fans, a 5” LCD screen mounted inside (primarily because it looks so cool having one), and solid rubber feet to replace the original case feet.
To give you an idea how much of an improvement this computer is from my old one it used to take almost 30 min to load Genesis 8 Male - now it's less than 2. It renders scenes in a few min that used to take my old PC hours if it didn't crash and it usually crashed.
This is silly but I named it “Silver-Boy” – with a hyphen like Spider-Man. I wasn’t going to share that with the world but my nephew Max would insist that I do.

...looks pretty sharp. I will say the small vidscreen is interesting.
Congrats! Sounds like you'll be having lots of fun with that :-)
check out a program called rainmeter. i wasn't aware of it until recently but there is alot of really interesting things you can do with it.
thanks, it really helped me survive the past year, to focas on something other than the news, ect.
That looks amazing!
Quite impressive! in a very ... "Skynet is live" kinda way ...
That is such a clean built, Congratulations!
Very nice build, I especially like the color, I see two radiators. now that is cooling. Iray heats up systems like crazy. Congradulations on a great build.
I only see one AIO cooler. I think the one on the graphic card is just a fancy cable harness. It's kind of overkill to watercool the RTX3060
Nothing wrong with showing off.. It's strange to keep looking and trying to find the PSU. Honestly it looks great, Sometimes bragging is cool. I just built my first build in over 10 years and it was long overdue (2010 Cheese grater mac running windows 10) - finding parts is nuts, finding parts without an insane markup is more nuts. Enjoy.
Really nice build!
I've never understood the need to make a pc pretty. It does look good, but that look comes at a cost; I'd sooner have a better piece of kit somewhere.
For some folks, espescially DIY er, look is just as important as function. There's a sense of pride and accomplishment involved. If you can afford it, by all means, put the bling on your build.
I grew up building 'boring' beige boxes. Those days are gone now. Building new rigs are a bit more fun and interesting nowadays. I'm building them just for fun. I'm working on one for my nephew (a game/blender pc). After that, my wife wants a new one (Media + Games). Both of them want blings on their new machines...
After all, we like everything pretty in the room ;-)
...even though I strive for good internal management (important for cleaning, servicing and upgrading) I have a solid steel case with a large intake fan on the left panel so nothing inside is visible when it's all buttoned up. The front intake fans I added a couple years ago are lit (red which does give a bit of a sinister appearance when I have the front door of the case open) but that is it.
I guess I could do the same to the top radiator fans if I wanted to, but likely won't until they need to be replaced.
I'm a DIYer; i have been for years, as I only ever bought one PC after moving over to Windows in 95.
My current system is a Threadripper with 2 GPU, one 3090 and a 980ti i use for monitors. The only time I see my PC is when walking in and out of the room, otherwise it's hidden behind the monitors.
Now monitors I do spend money on em as they are for 'looking at'.
yes, but you're less likely to be surprised by dust bunny nests when you have a window where the fans are all commiserating.
Shew, I'm all for the show off! That's the fun of it.
Btw, that's my current setup. Planning on adding a screen like that, but I just have to find the right screws! Congrats on your new build and keep showing the goods!
Your Silver-Boy looks amazing. I especially liked the small screen.Congratulations to your work.
it was so much fun thinking and researching how to make it unique, i'm not a fan of ones that look like a video game something, but i love the way mine looks
you pc looks great.
funny that you mention screws - that was actually the one thing that was tricky, alot of tiny screws of all different types and i can be difficult if yo nave to identify one. smartest thing i did when i was building this was to buy some small plastic bags and label everything.
if you a screen like mine (its a waveshare) look into ordering a case or frame for it. some people design and 3d print frames (they share them on reddit and other sites) but that's something i'm gonna tackle in the future,.
if haven't already, check out some of the pc that the realy good builds make - some are stunning. and a company singularity computers (https://www.youtube.com/c/SingularityComputers) some of the are just beautiful
