grey boxes

Hi everyone,

Since recently I was using DAZ Studio without any major problem. About two month ago one big problem occured and has not been fixed yet: from one day to the other all the characters or objects in my scenes started to appear as piles of grey or coloured boxes. Since then, whatever I try to newly load appears in the viewport as grey boxe(s) too and I am not aware to have done anything special that could explain why this is happening.
I contacted DAZ to have a support and we tried to solve the problem without success until now. The last things I have done is to uninstall/discard everything concerning DAZ from my computer and re-install the last version of DAZ Studio (4.7), PostgreSQL CMS and DAZ Install Manager. Through Install Manager I also re-installed few articles (Genesis, Genesis 2 male and female and what comes with the Starter Essentials) directly from the DAZ Studio web site. Everything should have been OK but, no, the grey boxes are still there.
Has someone an idea what is going on and how to fix this problem ?
Thanks in advance for any explanation and suggestion, I add some screen shots to illustrate the problem.

Re-installing DS will never solve content library problems, re-installing content alone will seldom solve problems either. You have know where DIM is installing the content and where Studio thinks it is installed. In Dim click on the gear shaped icon to open the preference settings. Switch to the Installation tab and the note the path listed. In Studio go to Edit/Preferences/Content Library tab/Content Directory Manager button and make sure the path listed in DIM is also set for both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.

    Hi jestmart,

The Daz Studio support already asked me to check what you suggest and the Content path in both Install Manager and DAZ Studio 4.7 are identical. It is unfortunately not the solution. Thanks anyway for your answer.

Could you post a screen shot of DS's Content Directory Manager with the DAZ and Poser formats expanded and of DIM's Installation tab (make sure it enlarged/strecthed sure the path is completely visible). The only reason for the boxes is that your content library is not mapped properly in Studio.

Since the paths match it should be working as long as DIM is installing properly. You will need to look at that path in Windows Explorer to see if the content is being installed and the are not extra folder like a "Content" folder. It would help if you also posted a screen shot of that.

Here is the extra screen shot. It seems that everything is correctly installed.
What would miss to explain these grey boxes according to you ? Before I un-re-installed DAZ Studio, I sometimes had error messages telling that either some assets couldn't be read or that files (...dsl) were missing to open correctly the object or character. And whatever, I still do not understand why everything worked one day and no longer the day after. Thanks again for your help.

This looks familiar, didn't DAZ Studio used to do this when posing to speed things up? It was a setting you could turn on and off, depending on the speed of your computer, the code is probably still in DS and has been accidently turned on. I don't see a preference though. Does anyone else remember this?

It was set in the Tool Settings pane, but it did not affect anything until you moved the figure, and it is still there in 4.7

That last screen shot may be a clue to the answer. You are using a non English version of Windows, if there are any non standard international characters in the path Studio may not recognize it. Try changing (or simply adding) the location of your library to something simple like ... c:/3D Content Library ... in both DIM and Studio. You just need to install one test product see if this works, preferably one that has both Poser format and Studio format files.

I think this has nothing to do with your library. I noticed something when I looked at the images you posted.
It seems that you have accidently set your viewport to box instead of the regular mode. DS saves these settings for some reason, iso they don't get changed when you re-install, unless you would also remove the setttings file manually.
Please try this: Next to the box where you select Perspective view, you will find a small box (marked in the picture below). Clicck on the small triangle next to it, and select "Texture Shaded" from it. That should return your view to the regular one.

    Well, well, well.
I feel a bit confuse (not to say completely stupid) to have missed this but lee_lhs is right. The change to "Texture Shaded" made the difference and the figures I am loading now look normal again. Thanks a lot to everyone for your attention and support, I really appreciate the help you provided.
    Good Bye.

  • having the same issue here while its set to "texture shader" in the viewport !!

    version 4.15

everything was normal till i deleted a file by accident and reinstall daz again and find it this way
