what triggers the optimize images process?

is there a way to disable?
i want to compare with a no optimized to see if it makes a quality difference in my render.

TDLmake.exe runs and optimises the images, so that you are not using massive textures in renders which don't need them. It creates lots of smaller images, and it uses the appropriate one for the render size. A bit like mip mapping in game engines.
I don't think you can stop it, and it would be pointless to do so.
I haven't yet found a rhyme or reason to what triggers it though. At point I changed the gamma and that triggered it, so I thought, "OK, changing gamma must trigger it." But then I changed it again, and it did not trigger. So I dunno. It almost seems random.
i did! turn on gamma correct in my render settings.
and i converted the tif to png.
i want to turn if off dangrabbit, added 7 minutes to my render time.
did some genesis renders, the optimizing didn't activate.
You can't turn it off, it's an essential part of the render process. Any new or changed image must be optimised, though if you have been doing other stuff after loading or updating the texture the optimisation may have been done by the time you render.
