Well, the wiry non-straight is more evident. I think it depends on the lighting, the shadows, and how close up people are rendered as to how realistic it's going to look.
Thanks for your comments, Novica and Serene.
@Novica - that "tree-bark" promo pic is actually a beard setting called "Fake Beard" - that morph thickens up the individual hairs a lot - it's supposed to look unrealistic, I think.
In the ReadMe it's recommended to SubD the longer beards for a close-up render to get them finer. You can also mix in some of the curlier options. I attach a series of semi-rendered screenshots (Iray again, but time-restricted for speed so still a bit grainy) of one of the "grassier" looking styles, 100% "Wizard Beard" on the left, then 65% "Wizard Freez" (I think "Freez" means "Frizz"), finally 50% "African Beard" 50% "Homeless Beard" and 70% "Wizard Beard" - which came out with a roughly similar beard length. These are not SubD, and the Fine Hair and Thickness settings are not used at all, to give an idea of how they come out without much tweaking. I'll try and add in a SubD fully rendered pic later.
What a difference- the third one looks very much like the promos that I think are pretty realistic. Thanks for the explanation and renders :)
You forgot to add that the name of this Style is "FAKE BEARD " to use with sculptures or for other purposes
I don't see it as constructive review but rather a trolling about
Make sure first that your render don't looks like plastic then comments on others works
Regards
Some of the promo images look almost like plastic. See below. Someone may want that style for their work, but I certainly hope this isn't being passed off as realistic by any stretch of the imagination.
Edit: Upon second look, it appears more like tree bark.
Great usage of the product Melanie , thanks for sharing your experiences with it
Glad it's called fake, I certainly hit the nail on the head when I said it didn't look realistic at all in that one promo. It's good to provide that option as different styles can certainly use it. Glad you pointed out that aspect. The wiriness of some of the other beards, as I said, is certainly appealing.
The promos are with just the base without any adjustments for anything , there are 3 tools plus sub-d for making the look you want .. some hair textures are straight some freeze other not and all of them can be define and adjusted or mixed together .. And yes they don't looks the same in 3Delight and Iray but that have to do with the different kind of lighting and nothing else . I don't sell crap to others for quick dollar but putting in my time , energy and soul and I take it very serious . And if anybody have serious problem I am around for support .
and btw I can make any realistic hair I want but if I put 45 styles into product like that not your RAM or VRAM could handle it so that are another program limitation and the best solution I could do was presented in Unshaven 2 for the rest LAMH or Garibaldi .. sadly not animated
Does anyone have LY Aileen? http://www.daz3d.com/ly-aileen
She's got really nice freckles, and I like the way she looks.
Has she been rendered yet Novica? I can't recall.
I have her but no, I don't think we did. I'll see if I have her installed and try to do a closeup.
the freckles look good. not sure how I missed that one.

I used the Make Her Smile expression, and tested a few others. Her eyes on most of them still seemed a bit too wide open so I would close the eyes a bit (as I did here) if doing her for a keepable render. The freckles definitely show up. Char Hair renders at a very decent rate and you can move the bangs, including the typical windy look, along with other movement.
Click to enlarge, click again. Large render so it darkens it when shrunk.
Thanks for pointing out the eyes. They do look a bit wide. And the texture looks a bit flat.
I think the freckles are fun though.
The lights are a mixture of distant lights and spot lights, no UE2 or AOA advanced. Her skin has a sheen which would be even more apparent if the lights were a bit brighter, such as daylight. I like the UE2 even though it may take longer to render in most scenes.
Wonder who the artist is? It doesn't have one listed!

may I suggest adding a spec light to your 3DL light setup? for me it made a huge difference and made everything look better.
Yes, I think it definitely would. I played around with a few other light settings (that I mentioned earlier) and am still tweaking. She has lovely features and I really like that your characters are unique. There's not very many that I don't have! :)
I did a Ruins of Angkor Wat Temple light setup with a few additional lights added. Shows up the mid-tones much better and of course, the nice freckles. I also like the natural default color of the lips, and there's a good variety.
Click to enlarge, click again, large render. You'll see the pores and textures more clearly.
Thank you so much!!
That hair looks good and I agree, the nude facial makeup is quite nice. The freckles are a nice change.
Melinda Hair

Wanted to show you the other Aileen that I did, with the eyelashes "hide layer" used so you can have more of a natural look. Also, her teeth are nice and don't have a ultra white Pepsodent look- very natural in color. This is with Melinda Hair, which renders at a good speed. Shown as default, straight out of the box. Really like the different colors which are available.
Again, very large render. Click to enlarge, click again.
EDIT: Aileen with Barn Yard lights.
Also shown with End of Summer Hair, which make a note, needs smoothing badly. Don't use it out of the box! (as shown.) (Newbies- smoothing helps with that crinkly appearance.)
Wow! looks good. I think the natural eyelashes really look great.
there's the aileen that I know!!
yeah. I hate overly white teeth!! I've spent time trying to get them white but not chicklet white.
another trick with the eyelashes that I like, is to not make them black black. I will use a soft black or brown on the eyelashes for a lovely natural look. I just set them up with the black black for the usual mascara'd look.

This was the first time I had a chance to load Urban Surviviors and I was very impressed with all the fine details available in the set. The jeans in particular have an excellent and believable loose fit, and aren't the usual painted on jeans you typically see. The set renders well in Iray, and I'm sure if you were an Iray pro, you could get even more out of this set by tweaking textures which I have not done.. But I haven't done an Iray render yet, so wanted to give it a shot.
I particularly love the way the fly looks and the seams around the groin are very convincing. In addition to this set, you also get a scarf that covers the face, and quite a few various textures to bring the clothing to life, and a baseball cap.
The other texture I really like is an alternate camo texture. The camo pants just look great, and would work for any sort of figure. I think I can say this is one of the best, if not the best basic clothing/outfit set of real-world clothing I've seen hit the store. It just looks very nice.
I did find the set a bit memory intensive for me to use but that likely can be attributed to my machine and having multiple figures in one scene.
Overall, great outfit. =-)
Novica: I'm going to have to ask, which is your favorite Lyoness character? I think I will have to beef up my Lyoness figures collection. Who do you suggest?
I'll render a few using the same light set as Aileen and you can compare them.
LY Karine is in FG just now: http://www.daz3d.com/ly-karine
I had startedd with Gwenifer, I have Karine- I think we've already rendered her several times. Depending on how long Gwenifer takes, I'll do Karine next. :)
You did VERY nicely with your first iray render. It really shows up the creases and folds in the pants. I agree, this outfit is a great example of realistic casual clothing. I like the hood and that hair- great choice together. I don't particularly care for high collars, but that's a personal preference and nothing against the clothing itself. We need different styles. Thanks for sharing!

EDIT: Replaced the renders with a render with Gwenifer and Barn Lights. It's clearer and my studio was acting up and I'm not sure the correct textures were used. I think they were the default G2F. Again, remember you can eliminate some of the eyelashes in Parameters and also shorten them, undo the curl, etc. for a more natural look..
StudyTime has a neat top- don't let the hoodie throw you off, it loads separately. Nice textures!
Lyoness- feel free to share any renders you've got of the characters that aren't shown as promos.
Found this one of Karine which was done in an earlier thread. Finishing up the closeup with the exact same lighting / hues as the third one fromAileen, and the exact same pose. That's the only way you can compare them.
