Convert Genesis 8.1 model morph to 8.0

Hello all, I've been trying to convert my genesis 8.1 morph to genesis 8.0 but without any success.

I tried to export it as an OBJ and just import it back on my figure with the morph loader option, but I lose a lot of details since it only allow subd0 from what I've seen.

Is there a way to completly transfer my genesis 8.1 to a genesis 8.0 figure ? I have a lot of things that I've made for genesis 8.0 and I don't have the courage to redo everything to work properly on genesis 8.1 since the change are so little.

Thanks !

  • What would need converting in your 8.0 items? If you are using the current version of DS, or the one before, then most things should work automatically.

    Mainly geoshell,custom map & morph :/

I know how to make them compatible toward genesis 8.1, but it would take so much time for all of them

  • Regarding Morphs:

    • Morphs that work on Genesis 8 should work on Genesis 8.1 automatically. Morphs created for Genesis 8.1 can't be used on Genesis 8 out of the box.

    Regarding Geoshells

    • These can work on Genesis 8.1 with some manual tweaks. Genesis 8.1 splits the "Torso" skin surface into two different surfaces: "Body" and "Head". So the process to make it work will be as follows:
      • Load a Genesis 8 and a Genesis 8.1 Figure.
      • Apply the Geoshell to both figures.
      • Select your Genesis 8.1 Geoshell and select the surfaces (windows > panes > surfaces) "Body" and "Head".
        • Now, in your content library, go to Shaders Presets > Iray > DAZ Uber. Locate the shader "!Iray Uber Base" and apply that to the surfaces you have selected.
      • Next, select you Genesis 8 Geoshell and locate the "Torso" surface.
        • Copy the settings by using cntrl+c or left click on torso > copy selected surfaces...
      • Now select once again the Genesis 8.1 Geoshell and paste the settings into the "Body" and "Head" surfaces.
      • You can now save that Geoshell as a wearable for future use.

    Custom Maps:

    • Custom maps I'm not sure what you mean. Genesis 8.1 has a compatible UV version of Genesis 8, so skins from Gen 8 will be applied without issues to Genesis 8.1. However, Genesis 8.1 skins cannot be used on Genesis 8 if they use 8.1 Base UVs.

Hello, thanks for all of the useful tips & the time you putted into your post :)

I was indeed trying to make a 8.1 morph work on 8.0, but since you made the genesis 8 to 8.1 bridge look so easy, look like I won't need it anymore !

By custom maps I was talking about map I made myself or bought on other marketplace so your answer is on spot.

    Cheers !

What do you want to transfer, morph, textures, wearables and why?

I am also interested in trasferring Genesis 8.1 to Genesis 8. Just morph, head and body shape and details (muscles etc...)

G8 & G8.1 are the same model just different UV for the textures.

The following only works for standard morphs. HD morphs are not accessible to the standard end user only publishers. If you are attempting to transfer an HD morph you can "try" my idea at the bottom of this post. I have no idea if it will work. HD morphs are a pain if you are not a publisher.

    METHOD 1:
    If you have Zbrush,

1 .send your G8.1 model to Zbrush at base resolution.

    2. delete your G8.1 model from the daz scene.

    3. send your G8 model to Zbrush (this will add a a new sub tool) You need to do this because sending a morph from Zbrush to a model in daz that has not its self been imported to Zbrush first will cause wonky results.

    4. Export your G8.1 model from Zbrush as a morph to your G8 back into daz. You will need to select the G8 as the target as we deleted the G8.1 earlier.

    METHOD 2:

You should also be able to export your G8.1 as an obj from daz but you need to make sure to select the correct dialogue options. Then use the morph loader pro to import the morph into your G8 model.

METHOD 3 (HD Morph): (No idea if this will work)

If you are trying to transfer an HD morph, I do not know of any known method. You can try..... I have no idea if this will work. Find your morph file in the data folder. Move it out of the G8.1 folder and into the G8 folder. Doing this might make it accessible to the G8 figure. As G8.1 has access to the G8 resources folders but G8 does not have access to the G8.1 resources folder.

I don't know how much resources availablilty is dependent on folder structure or imbedded metadata in the file its self. It's possible this will do absolutely nothing.
