I read that the beta will not overwrite your current DS, but it did.

Been putting off installing 4.15 because so many posts have noted that it takes more resources which is troubling and a step backwards IMO. Well there are some new products i really want to try and reading that you can install the beta along side your current install, decided to give it a try. Loaded up DIM, selected the BETA version and hit install. BIG MISTAKE as I now have the non beta version installed over my old install. Does +BETA+ in DIM mean something else now? Under products ready to install, the non beta version is listed, yet when I look at installed products, the bete is listed, that is messed up! Not happy right now!!!

I discovered that the last update in DIM did indeed download and install both even though I didn't enable it in preferences, fortunately I realised at the download stage and unchecked installation, browsed to and renamed my folder with 4.11 in my case, then let it carry on so have both and the beta.

and I hate it except for using Filament angry DAZ to Unreal Bridge is refusing to work with it too.

  • I don't know what happened there because I have 4.14 and 4.15 beta installed. I have DIM set to download but not install so I can see what's what before I install it all.

maybe that was my issue, I let DIM install also. I think I am going to go back to doing everything manually again since letting DS and DIM handle things is not working for me obviously

  • The beta is a separate product, it will not overwrite the release version - the data set up, as long as it hasn't been manually edited, doesn't allow that. A couple of elements (PostgreSQL, GoZ, and possibly the 3D bridge) have additional code to assume that only one version is installed - but that still isn't overwriting.

AsI said, that doesn't happen because of the wayu it is coded. The beta was swirftly promoted to a general release, so it may be that you had both available for download and accidentally selected both.

It must've been something that came with an update to Daz Install Manager...  I just checked and it has both public build and regular Studio set to install in the same path.

I'm not seeing that here, and I don't think I've skipped any updates to DIM or DS. Are the those of you who had unexpected overwrites seeing the same as JamesJAB?

I'm setting up a laptop and installed both, new version of DIM and both versions of DS and everything is fine. If multi people are getting it a ticket should be submitted.
