Daz Restarts my PC without warning. How to fix?
Daz has recently begun crashing on me so frequently that I literally can’t use it for more than a few minutes before it fails. I’ve written to their tech support, but they are taking a long time to reply, so I’m hoping maybe you folks might know how to fix this issue.
I’m calling these “crashes,” but actually, my PC will just immediately restart, with no error message, no warning of any kind. This usually happens when Daz is either beginning a render, or simply drawing the Iray view of my scene in the preview viewport.
In my PC’s Event Viewer utility, I see that my PC has had a “Kernel-Power” error (Event ID 41). I’ve read that these can sometimes be caused by a faulty power supply, but I doubt that’s the case here, as the PC will run games for hours with no issue. The only other program that has experienced one of these crashes/restarts is Quixel, which has crashed just one time.
I tried clearing out the DSON cache, but that did not help. I’m running the latest version of Daz, and the latest “Studio” version of he Nvidia driver.
Any ideas what might be causing this, and how to remedy it?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Michael

That is most likely a PSU problem, @Marble tried also diagnosing with games and different test programs, but they were not able to strain the PSU the same as DS. There was just one test program that was able to put enough load to the PSU to cause the computer to restart, but I don't remember the name now.

I had that same problem. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and throttled the GPU so it doesn't run at full blast, and it stopped happening.
make sure you fans and vents are clean. spray with compressed air. your CPU came out 12 years ago, the thermal paste may be syrup at this point. you can reapply new paste , check you-tube for instructions.
Do not overclock the CPU or GPU, it is utterly pointless in 3D work. The CPU will accelerate itself to it's max clock speed when it needs to and relax when it doesn't. GPU OC offers very little visual improvements. The exception to OC is if you use enhanced RAM you can have XMP enabled in the BIOS (it' usually off by default) this will allow RAM to run un-throttled with little difference to instability and potentially big difference in speed.
Running multiple AV and malware packages any OS will quickly destabilize a system as well. Windows (and macOS) have pretty great AV built in if you don't regularly do stupid things like update your outdated flash.exe on a warez site hosted in the Netherlands with program descriptions in Cyrillic text.
Thanks, everyone, for these insights. I'll do more troubleshooting based on these ideas and see if I can resolve the issue.
Are you running the latest version of DAZ Studio? Because I've found that the newest version of Studio is fairly unstable on my PC, and will cause a variety of crashes, including full restarts.
