Feature request: Something like Reallusion SkinGen for Genesis 8
It's never easy to add detail to skins, to make character skins less perfect.
I've been playing with a trial of Reallusion Character Generator, and they have a plugin called SkinGen, which lets you play with many layers of different skin-specific details, with flexible parameters and masks. All with real time feedback in a pbr rendered viewport. https://www.reallusion.com/character-creator/skingen-premium/default.html
The closest I know in the Daz world is SkinBuilder (https://www.daz3d.com/skin-builder-8-for-genesis-8-females?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=&utm_content=&utm_term=&utm_matchtype=&utm_creative=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1L-etLqh8wIVHz6tBh0s0AWYEAAYASAAEgLE8PD_BwE) but it is a lot less flexible, has (I believe) not been updated for G8.1, and it is very slow, certainly not real time.
Would love something like SkinGen for Daz Studio

There are various separate products offering the ability to add details via GeoShells, which should be fast and PBR ready but have limited options for moving the details around (some, awy for seams, could be done by adjuting the offsets under tiling in the Surfaces pane).
Thanks Richard. Yes, I have seen some of these products. But it is really no comparism. It's about the interactive experience in the tool, the immediate real time feedback, the ability to modify, scale, move blemishes and detail in real time. The ability to creater variation as opposed to re-using the same maps. There are easy and fast adjustment sliders. Simple masks to restrict application areas....
And even when it comes to the sort of details available in at least the products I have seen, there is a lot more richness and a lot more choice of and control over skin imperfections - and it is quite easy to use.
That's not going to happen, at least not anytime soon, not with iray, not with the current way skin works in Daz, not with how the api works. The only half decent solution would be to make tons of presets to apply overlays which can easily destroy shader setups that use overlays already. The only real solution right now are layered images (L.I.E), but they're slow/take a long time to apply, which is exactly the reason why skin builder is slow.
Well - the skingen plugin also does a bake process in the end, just like skin builder. I just gives a lot more interactive control while you are modifying the skin layers, in a pbr viewport. That is good enough to get a very good idea what is happening. The real difference between LIE / skinbuilder and the skingen plugin is really just the interactive manipulation you can do, and the fact that there are a lot of useful preset maps included. Skingen takes a bit of time to open, and a bit of time to bake, but while you are in it, it's a good interactive experience...
I prefer to work in layering paint program like Photoshop and Corel Photo-Paint and detail and layer directly onto the textures. You wouldn't really want to do freckles as a geoshell...well you could. I also sample stuff like from 3D-SK and other sources and have a collection of skin layer details and skin tones. Substance Painter, helps out a lot with such detailing as well (now included with the Adobe Cloud package.)
One could build a sepeate program in like C# to create layered detailed textures that exports for Daz. Wouldn't be very hard actually and that may run faster then a Daz script addon.
I think that Daz has the advantage though on the huge amount of resources and ease of setting up the scenes and posing the characters. The iray render engine in Daz is really good....I wish it was a bit better.
I understand you, I envy character creator and iclone only two things, this skingen and animation. Add this to everything Daz and it will be gorgeous.
I've not played with SkinGen or IClone because their website is an upsales mess. But could one not create a UV remap to G8? Not sure what they look like so not sure why it hadn't been done yet.
