Rotate Tool Not Working

I have a new issue: In the middle of a several scenes my rotate and universal tool sudden stops working. Instead of rotating, when I click on the axis it selects the object instead. If I open an entirely new scene, the tools go back to normal.

The "sphere" still works.

I've increased the size of the axis, but it hasn't helped.

I did a forum search and someone had a similar problem back in 2017, but nobody could figure out what was happening.

Anybody else experience this randomly?

  • Is it failing on all nodes or only on some?

    Hello Richard,

All nodes. The weird thing is if I start a new instance and load up a primitive, the tool works again. Also, it was working previously in the same scene. It just suddenly stops working for some reason. This is a new issue for me.

    Is "Caps Lock" key engaged?

    Have you rebooted your mouse?

    Mouse batteries OK?

Does the problem persist beyond a system reboot?

    Why is there air?

    Does free will exist?

    Who shot JR?

Yeah, I got a little silly above, but I have problems with my wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo sometimes causing wierd behavior because it's not initializing properly and coming up with the "Shift" function reversed until I hit the "Caps Lock" key which can affect menus opened or actions initiated by the mouse.  (This keyboard doesn't have a "Shift" indicator light so I can't tell without testing.)

    Ha. Thanks for your help!

The weirdest thing is it works when I open up a new instance, so it's not anything related to the software or hardware.

I checked the settings in the "Tool" panel and they're the same.

If this was the first time, I'd shrug and call it a one-time weirdness. But this has now happened to me three times. sad

The only way to fix it so far is to "merge" an existing scene into a new scene file.

  • Have you any plug-ins that add new tools installed, and have you used them in the problem scenes?

Hm. Only Mesh Grabber. But that doesn't seem to be the cause because I can use it freely in other scenes with no issues. Weird!
