What's the deal with no gens textures

It's really getting irritating the number of characters that don't have anatomical textures but that don't indicate that on the product page. Vendors, please let us know what we are getting.

My own rule if thumb is that, if the product doesn't list anatomical elements textures on the "What's Included" section, it doesn't have them. (But then, a lot of characters, like certain DAZ Originals Base ones that come to mind, don't list the morphs or other "extra" features they come with.)

A while back I started assuming that if it didn't say so on the product page, they weren't included. If it was something I really wanted and I wasn't sure I would check the readmes when they were available, but otherwise I'd just pass over them. I definitely agree that DAZ should be enforcing clearer descriptions, and that it would benefit the vendors.

  • I was floored when I bought Underbelly and he didn't have one given all that came with the character. But the issue is that some that don't list it, have it. Specifying could really help the customer decide.

  • People have worked around those limitations... there's a "Torso UV" for the Genitals prop, which gives you at least a functional texture. (Freebies at Renderosity.)

At 'Rotica, Eroticalist has a geoshell product that adds a color and "wetness" overlay to the G8M genitals.

In any case, there are ways to deal with the textures. It used to bother me as well, but it doesn't anymore. I really like the geoshell overlays. Gives you more control.

PA's list what "is" included, not what "isn't" included.............and DAZ encourages us to make sure we write "with anatomical elements" in the product description if we do include them (though that can also sometimes be forgotten..accidents happen)

For what it's worth, you were one of the ones I was thinking of that always lists that, as far as I can remember.

If the readme is available that will list everything that is included. You go to the readme, and if you don't see it, look for a link that says

    Additional Details

    • File List

That link will show every file included. To make this super easy, you can use the "Daz store browser add on" plugin to make the readme show up on the store page of the item itself. It is one of the many awesome features the plugin offers. So even if the store page fails to list this correctly, the readme should. I stress...should...sometimes the readme is not available for some reason, and in rare cases the readme is indeed wrong. But most of the time the readme is correct.

So for me, if I am looking at Underbelly I have the readme link right on the store page. Which takes me to the main readme, with a link to this  http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/69391/file_list

There if I look there is no listing for gen mat textures, so I know Underbelly lacks them. (Poor guy)

While it would be great if the store page properly listed these things, this is the best option for confirming what the product includes.

For what it's worth, if I'm unclear, I usually check the file list attached to the readme, which helps clear things up. For example, Rahul for G8.1M has the textures, but doesn't list them on the product page

For what it's worth, Underbelly was a slightly special case. He was the second character -- and first male -- that Daz bought from Artstation creators. He'd been created all of a piece -- character and clothing were one object, with the original creator having given no real thought to what lay under the clothes because they never intended for him to be used as a figure the way that Studio users expect. I will note that Daz does appear to have learned a bit; Niko -- the second male they bought from Artstation creators -- does have gens textures, even though he was originally conceived the same way, as a character with clothing. (THAT said, Kyrone -- included in the Wolfgang 8.1 bundle, for whatever reason -- is the first Daz-O included in a bundle of adult figures that I've seen that doesn't have gens textures, because Kooki99 -- the vendor they bought him from -- doesn't do gens textures for any of their adult male characters.)

I am learning that about Kooki99. Where can you view the readme before you buy it? And how have I missed that?

Like Outrider42 said, I would strongly recommend getting the  Daz Deals browser plugin, available for both Chrome and Firefox from either the Chrome addon webstore or addons.mozilla.org for Firefox. That adds a link to the readme on the store product page to every product in the store, when they exist. That way, you don't need to search the wiki site for the individual readmes.

Like I said, with the browser add on the readme is right on the store page, it makes it stupid easy to find the readme anytime. This is what my Underbelly store page looks like. If you look by SKU the readme link it right there. The browser add on can also show a price history graph, plus links to user gallery images that list Underbelly, and even every forum page that has a link to the store page. So if I were to link Underbelly's store page URL here, this post and thread would also show up on the store page! I think that is pretty freakin' cool, because you can quickly locate discussions of the product, and this would also potentially allow you to find out that the product has no gens. So, I think I will do that, so that other users of the browser add on will see this thread about Underbelly's lack of gens.  https://www.daz3d.com/underbelly-8

That is also why I sometimes go in and post a link to the store page in PA commercial threads if the PA did not do so. This is the best use of the feature IMO, adding a link on the store page straight to the PA commercial thread is fantastic, no searching required. All of these features are optional in the browser add on. You can enable the features you want.

I know that I probably sound like some salesman here hyping this. But the browser add on really is one the best things around for Daz users.

Considering that it offers all that additional info and especially the price history, which is a great help when trying to decide "to buy now" or "buy in a couple weeks when the product is on sale again (and again and again)" it doesn't matter how you sound... it's a terrific and FREE addon everyone should use who shops at DAZ wink
