Depth of Field Switch Does Nothing

I've run into an issue where setting up a new camera and switching on depth of field does absolutely nothing.

In the attached images, you can see the depth of field settings are properly configured to place the fan inside the focus area.  The other two images show the camera's viewport with NVIDIA Iray, with the only difference being the Depth of Field setting being toggled.

I have already reviewed all these materials in an attempt to resolve the problem:

I am working in Studio 4.15 and have tried both Iray's photoreal and interactive render modes.

  • Did you click in the viewport or on the scene tab to deselect the camera and then reselect the camera [to force the Tab to refresh]?

  • Have you tried setting the fStop to something like 2 or 3?

They referenced my post, so I assume they're trying to compensate for Iray's baffling DOF handling where using 2 or 3 sometimes results in absurdly strong depth of field.

Is it the same when you render the image?

  • There might be something with the assets causing the error.

What were the assets, positions, and the render settings?

I did a quick test, using similiar assets and settings, Focal distance 410, f/stop:14, camera at default load position, render settings at default, other than environment mode set to sun-sky(default).

The lamp, at -121.65,0,367.72, with the fan at 0,0,0

    See attached.

I also tried it at 2, and whoa boy i wouldn't recommend using that with assets that far apart.

  • I wasn't suggesting the low values as a practical choice, just as a test.

Have you chosen the new camera from the camera dropdown menu and also select it in the scene tab?
