Posing a homemade/home-rigged figure

I created a human figure of my own (he's named "mud1")--I did all the rigging, weight maps, and tested out posing him using both the universal tool and the sliders in the posing tab. It works ok, but there is a strange lag. When I pose Genesis, it happens in real time and I can observe the change. When I pose my figure, he reverts to the "zero" pose while I'm moving the slider and springs into his new pose when I'm done. How can I fix this?

I've noticed sometimes you just need to save the asset, close DS and reopen and reload your figure and everything will work as expected. Don't know why, though.

Looks like that's not working. Something else I found odd while saving the figure/prop asset was that my tutorial showed a different menu, and it doesn't appear to be available in this version (4.7 pro). The Blondie 9999 tutorial on rigging tells me that I save using the "DSF Figure/Prop" selection under "save as." It's not there! It's supposed to be the first or second choice in the "save as" list, but it's not there. I went to the support assets, and the only choice was the figure/prop choice I use for wardrobe and props. The menu under figure/prop doesn't list "actor" as a "set content type" option. Do they not want you creating new figures?

Ha, closed and reopened twice, and it works. Once wasn't enough! Thanks for the suggestion.
    Now on to bulge maps!

In DS 4.7 it is under File:Save As:Support Assets:Figure/Prop Assets

that's the one, but mine doesn't have "actor" as an option under "set content type." The only option is "none."

That sounds as if the CMS is not working. Do you see anything in the Smart Content pane or under Categories in the Content Library pane?

It shows up in the content library, and everything seems function as a figure should. After I do all the smoothing of the weight maps and the other misc. tweaks, I'll fit some items to him and see how that goes.

The posing problem is back. As you're rotating a joint, it won't show it in progress--it will snap to the new pose after you're done making the movement.

PROBLEM SOLVED. There is a box near the bottom of the Universal Manipulator tool settings tab called "skin binding." When it is set on "optimize" I end up getting the weird lag. When it is set on "full", the motion is fluid in real time with the mesh following the bones just fine.
Thanks, and I hope this info helps someone in the future.

Do you have Categories/Products/Smart Content working?

  • edited December 1969

Smart content is completely blank (the smart content tab contains nothing)

Content type requires CMS, so if Smart Content and Content Library > Categories/Products aren't working, then you won't have options for Content Type.

Windows services says it is running. I restarted DAZ, but no luck.
Maybe it's no big deal; I'm not sure I really need it to be integrated into the smart content system. All of my content is home-made and in a stand-alone runtime.

It may be that the database is corrupt, especially if you are still using Valentina. If you go to Edit>Preferences do you have tab, partially hidden on the right, for CMS Settings?

I'm using 4.7 Pro. I do have the tab and it says CMS is running, and so does Windows, but I'm not getting the functionality. Maybe turn it off, shut down everything, including the computer, then log back in and re-start it?

You may simply need to reimport your metadata - there was a conversion utility included with the DIM downloads, but if the Valentina database was on the point of corruption it might fail. Go to the Content Library pane, open the option menu (lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab) and select Content DB Maintenance, then in the dialogue check Re-import Metadata and click Accept, then Accept in the next dialogue.

doesn't seem to be causing any change. Still nothing in the smart content tab and still no option to save as actor.
Maybe this won't be a big problem if I'm just doing original stuff. If I'm mostly using DAZ to just assemble my sculpts and pose them, then maybe I don't need the functionality of the CMS system.
