Makeup issue - Not applying - SOLVED!

So, I was trying some different options for a character skin, and I noticed that when I try to load makeup for a bunch of characters, like Freja 8, Edie 8 and Charlotte 8....none of the makeups works? Character is selected, mats are selected, and I douple click to apply and nothing. The overall skin/mats apply fine, but none of the makeup options. It's been a while since I've tried some of these characters, so I wonder if I missed a discussion about this related to 8 versus 8.1 or something (I did try this on both 8 and 8.1 same issue)
Ideas? (I did search, but did not find a relevant topic)

Many times you will not see the makeup on your figures unless you use the Iray preview. This has happened to me. Also, which I'm sure you know, make sure you're not applying the 3delight settings I've done this a bunch by accident as well.
Iray preview, that was it. Not sure how I have never run into that before? Thanks for the tip, sort of a pain that it is not in the Texture Shaded preview, but I can live with it. Now I need to remember this so I don't ask again in 3 months
If you use the content library to navigate, you sometimes see a notice that the makeup is using diffuse overlay channels and can only be seen when rendered.
Makeups often are made as diffuse overlay maps. Especially on newer Daz Originals 8 core characters. Diffuse overlays only show in iRay previews.
Many make-ups are to a channel (the name alludes me but I think it is something like Diffuse Overlay). The channel will not show until rendered, it may show in Iray Preview but I,ve never used that.
