Search function in the forum

in The Commons
When can we have a real, working search function in the forum. A function where you can sear for:
* Phrases
* Exact words
* Exclusions (Sword NOT katana)
* Wildcards (car* gives you all words starting with 'car' *sword gives you all words ending in sword)
* Periods (from - tom date)
* Sub catalogues (Like search just in Bolts and Nuts)
et cetera.
We used to have that earlier, why was it removed??

We have never had that sort of search on this forum that I rcall - I didn't think the old phpBB forums had all those features, though they did have most.
I know. It's frustrating as all hell. Unfortunately, none of the boolean search commands will work. If you have the words AND or NOT in your querry, you'll get EVERY post that has the word "and" or "not" in it.
The best I've been able to do is to put the exact words you do want to search for in quotations. The biggest problem even with that is that it's not always easy to remember or figure out an exact phrase used in the thread I'll be searching for which will help isolate them--such as tutorials.
RichardH: All the more reason to have a search facility then!
Seriously, though, It is actually very hard to do, got involved with trying to do it on another forum & ended up having to ditch it. It proved easier and more reliable for the search facility on the forum to create (cobble together?) a Google Search term and leave Google to do the actual search. Sounds a bit of a cop out, but the results were a good deal more reliable for little programming effort.

Richard
You can boolean search on Google and add the site modifier. If you want to search the whole of the forums just add site:https://www.daz3d.com/forums
For a specific forum just use the top line forum address from the address bar e.g. to just search in the Freebies section use site:https://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/freebies
I think you need to replace the https with "site", not just add it to the front.
The best search option for the forum is Google... and I'm not joking. I've never found anything in the forums using the search feature, but with Google I've much much much better results. So I don't bother trying anymore.
Cheers.
Works for me in the format above.
