When did DAZ start not to mention required products? And why?

in The Commons
I just found an interesting outfit. Okay, it was an old one, but nevertheless ... https://www.daz3d.com/dancing-fae
No mentioning of required products. I had to read the fine print. Details mentioned that it was for V3. Fine, I have this figure.
What's included and features .... mentioned that it was just a texture for the morphing cocktail dress. Which is nowhere in this store.
So, totally useless for me.
But what disturbs me, even more, is the fact, that DAZ ignored mentioning any required products. And this is by far not the only one I encountered this "feature".
That is very bad customer service.
And it is annoying as hell.

I think it is if stuff no longer available, some people may own the outfits
True.. the only real solution here is to set the product inactive.
IMO, some people may want to get those assets if they own the required product. That's why they remain available (I think). But those assets should mention that the required product is no longer available if that's the case. At least Rendo retiains the link to the required product but once you go to the linked page it says unavailable.
Add that products like Content Gatherer should include a warning that it does not work with DAZ Central or DAZ Connect.
And probably something for the products with deceased PAs that will most likely not be updated and tech support may not be available. This is particularly important for vendors like Dimension3D who made utilities and has been gone for years now.
Does DazCentral not download and store the install zips like DIM does?
I used Content Gatherer as an example because I use it with every project. Its currently still on sale. And I've asked that its limitations get marked on the product description, but have been largely ignored.
CG reads a project file and makes a list of all the non user facing files you need to reopen the project. Geometry, texture, temporary files, etc.
DAZ Connect and Central save project files differently. CG cannot locate the source files. CG hasn't been updated since 2016. Its unlikely it ever will. No other product provides the functionality.
So DAZ is currently selling a product that won't work for 2/3 of the possible install schemes.
Okay, so how about here?
https://www.daz3d.com/grungy-jeeps
The link to the required item, WWII Jeep, is missing from the store page, even though the product is still available at DAZ.
https://www.daz3d.com/wwii-jeep
If one reads the description carefully, one realizes that Grungy Jeeps is only a texture add-on, not a standalone product -- but that didn't keep DAZ from including a required product link to items like this in the past.
Considering that the PA passed away years ago, no it won't be.
I don't see why it wouldn't work with DazCentral though. DazCentral installs content in the same way as DIM and uses the same content directories.
I will keep an eye out, I thought I saw several products recently that didn't list required products that are definitely still available, and I haven't been in the store that much lately. I thought with the updates they might have accidentally turned off required products and it needed to be reenabled. If that's not the case, I guess I'll keep an eye out and try to report it when I see it.
Especially for many older products (Genesis 2 era and before), the links to required products are often missing. Sometimes the required products have disappeared from the store, other times they're still around. Usually, I can figure out what the required product is, either from the title, description, the list of "what's included", or, on some occasions, searching the designers
Dancing Fae is one of those case where even that doesn't tell much about what product would be required exactly. A bit of google-fu learns that it's a texture add-on for the V3 Morphing Cocktail Dress, which is no longer available. Some people may still have it in their personal library, but I didn't see it for sale anywhere.
You may be right, but I don't have the guts to test DazCentral. The issues appear to be where the resources are installed, the extensions not being recognized, and whether the files are encrypted (DazConnect).
When I contacted support they said they don't support CG and told me to contact the vendor. When I said the vendor was deceased, they closed the ticket.
Yes, I recently purchased a few texture sets for V4 items and the textures had completely different names from the original items that WERE still in the store. One mentioned the outfit in small print in the description, no link, and the other I had to do a lot of detective work to remember the original name because I knew I had the outfit but couldn’t remember its name and when I did find it, it also was still in the store. Both DO’s.
I was going to post about it the time but didn’t have time, and it’s not my job. I think Daz should offer customers a $2.00 gift certificate/store credit every time they find and report a store error. The customers are better at finding discrepancies than the staff and it would improve the site a lot without a significant cost to Daz.
Daz Connect does not encrypt files. It does compress them, even if the ones in the DIM zip are not compressed, but Daz Script can handle that
Then I am not sure why CG is falling when using Connect. I only DL with DIM and manually install what I need.
Daz Connect places each product in its own /data/cloud/1_SKU/ folder, so anything that relies on getting the path to a file (which will be provided as if the 1_SKU folder is the root of the content directory) will then go astray if it constructs an absolute path from that.
In the old Magento store the Required Field might disappear and reappear at random, on random products (random meaning no one ever seemed to figure out what caused it). Whether that bug is still around I can't tell.
Despite it could look like it was login or browser related a number of tests didn't seem to confirm that.
Actually, this makes a lot more sense now.
The problem is that I don't see required products on mobile. At all. I was wondering why something recent like https://www.daz3d.com/bounty-huntsman-outfit-textures wouldn't have the required product linked, but if I go to the page on my laptop, it IS linked. This is what I meant when I said I thought the lack of required product links I was seeing might be bugs. But it's hard to tell then when it's retired products, or a missing link that has to be updated, or a more extensive site issue.
On my smartphone it only appears when I put it in landscape mode, for some reason.
That may be from the Daz Deals browser addon if you have that installed which doesn’t work with mobile devices.
I don't have that browser add on, but required product links weren't a part of that add on anyway.
And yes, in landscape mode the required products link appears. On a phone it isn't a practical way to view the product pages, but it reinforces that it's an issue with the mobile template.
Looks like somebody was listening -- this page got fixed! Thanks to (looks around)... hmm, Jack maybe?
