Geoshell socks?
Hi everyone! Happy Friday!
I tried making some skintight socks using Daz's geoshell function, and so far... pretty happy with the results!
The socks that I made are "knee-high," because the geoshell visibility controls only go as far as "shin" and "foot." Hiding the shin portion leaves me with some very short ankle-cut socks, which I filed away for future use.
But is there an easy way to split the difference and create a crew-cut sock? That is, a sock that stops about mid-way up the shin?
As far as I can tell, you can't edit geoshells using the Geometry Editor. I tried exporting the figure & shell as an OBJ and deleting the excess material in Blender before reimporting, but the post-Blender OBJ doesn't seem to fit the figure (even when converted and 'fitted' to Gen 8). I suppose I can keep plugging away at a Bender solution, but I was hoping that there's a Daz option that I've overlooked...

You could create an opacity map and apply it to the geoshell.
I ran it through Blender again. Exported it as before (as an OBJ).
This time I remembered to seperate the 'upper leg/excess sock' portion of the OBJ (select the verticies, then hit P) rather than deleting them. This allows me to have a pair of socks that can be short or long. Yay!
Added material zones to the feet and the upper legs, then exported as a DAE file. When I imported it back into Daz, I had to shrink the DAE by 50%; otherwise, it worked well. Parented the socks to the G8F figure and then saved them as both a Figure/Prop Asset and a Wearables Preset.
So far, so good (aside from some minor poke-through).They're obviously not going to be added to the Daz Shop anytime soon, but what I was really looking for was a pair of ultra-thin socks to cover the 'ankle gap' you often get when combining shoe and pant items.
That's cool...or you could just make it a geoshell with an opacity map and adjust thickness with offset in parameters.
And you can always stick them on Renderhub, they'll let you sell anything.
