Trouble getting Reality 4 to work
![Rowan_Jedi_Knight](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/557/nXMIJDHMR86C7.jpg)
I have downloaded LuxRender 1.3.1 and installed it to C: Program Files/LuxRender, and Reality 4 is successfully registered. When i call on the Render, it says it is 'unconnected', on the initial 'Reality 4' splash screen. I can set materials and other parameters, but no image renders at all. I cannot find anything about this in documentation, so perhaps i am missing something obvious. I used Reality 2.5 a lot and it worked fine with Daz Studio 4.6. I run DS 4.7 now. I wonder if someone could tell me what might be wrong.

Can you re-produce the problem if so then post a short step by step guide so we can see if you are doing something wrong as that should only appear if DS is not running.
Quick Question :- are you running Reality from DS or from its stand alone program?
I will work on this. But i am running Reality from DS, calling it from DS once i set up the scene. The Reality 4 splash appears very briefly, and in its upper right corner
it says 'unconnected'.
When i installed Reality 4, i then managed to register it. But i discovered that i hadn't downloaded LuxRender 1.3.1 yet. I did this yesterday. Maybe i didn't do it in the right order, as i should have had that version in hand before. I was using Reality 2.5 up to purchasing Reality 4, and was really getting into it.
Along the lines of 'is it plugged in?', have you told Reality where to find LuxRender?
The Reality User Guide told me where to do that, and it seems i have, it says 'C:Program Files/LuxRender. It doesn't allow any selection of files in that folder, it only selects the folder. It is very weird, DS says the Reality 4 plugin is installed into DS (i looked at "Installed Plugins' and it has the green indicator. I am frankly stumped. But i am still thinking hard.
One thing to test, make sure that Reality isn't blocked by your ant-virus or firewall software. Reality needs full network access to connect with Daz Studio.
My firewall allows "LuxRemder Slave" in the path C:\Program Files\ LuxRender|luxconsole.exe. My antivirus allows it in the path C:\ Program Files\ LuxRender. And of course Reality doesn't render anything as i call it from DS. It evidently converts meshes to Lux things, from the momentary descriptions that are flashed. I'm trying to mention everything i can notice because i don't have a clue to what is wrong. Thanks for all the feedback!
Try disabling both your firewall and anti-virus and seeing if that cures the problem, if so then we know that its either your firewall or anti-virus that is the cause.
Edit: make sure that Reality is in your firewall's allow list
In closely re-reading the Reality 4 user guide, it says it is very important not to run the plugin before you install LuxRender 1.3.1 first. Well, that is what i did, so i think i need
to uninstall the Reality 4 plugin, then reinstall it again (as i do now have LuxRender installed). I didn't realize i hadn't the right version of LuxRender before i ran the plugin, silly me. But i don't really know how you uninstall the plugin from DS.
Inside you DAZ 3D folder you should find a folder called Plugins, Delete the REALITY folder inside that.
If using Windows then you DAZ 3D folder should be under Program Files, If using a MAC then it will be under APPLICATIONS
For instance you would find the Reality Plugin here under windows - 'Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4 64-bit/Plugins/Reality'
