Making a Floor for your character to stand on... Tips, tricks and advice
Ok I know you can load in a scene, character and pose etc. But what do you do when you want something simple to display a character you made? How do you make a basic ground setting in Daz, assuming your not using other products such as blender, Zbrush, Bryce etc.. Also lately during the Daz sales I've seen many ground shaders and was curious how'd you apply it to a basic scene (from scratch or trying to revitalize older content) if you had any examples. These are some shaders I have Ground Shaders for DAZ Studio, Not So Ancient Stones - Rough Concrete Shaders for Iray, Medieval Inspired Floor Tile Shaders Vol 2, & Wet Forest Floor Iray Shader (I don't have this last one yet but it looks so exciting and really inspires me to try and make my own ground content for my model.
I've played around with products such as TerraDome 3 Iray and UltraScenery - Realistic Landscape System which can be hard on pc work load depending on your scene. But I've actually never just made a plain ole floor hee. Any Tips Tricks and advice on this would be welcome.
Sincerely,
Jacob G.

Create a primitive, set it to plane. Scale it up. Select its surface in the Surfaces tab and then apply the shader.
If applying an Uber/PBR Shader you need to probably first apply the !Uber base shader to it first, otherwise it won't apply. Primitives like geoshells are created using the older non Uber shader base. You can tell if it's the old one when you look at the surface tab and if at the top of the list in Base Mixing it says plastic. You want it to say PBR xxxxx something or Weighted. THEN apply the shader you want.
cool tyvm I'll give it a go.

So if somethinig is an older model that says "plastic" in the base mixing under the surface tab(?) you apply !Uber first so the shader will stick correct? is the !Uber base shader something that is usually included with Uber/PBR shader sets or is that an option that comes default with Daz3d? If so where do you access it assuming you have standard install setup?
Thank you for your input it's good to have knowledge.

"Default Resources for DAZ Studio".
Right, and if you don't know those shaders/materials labeled RSL is for 3Delight and MDL for PBS/Uber you want to try and use the MDL ones as it's ideal for Iray.
tyvm for all the input everybody I'll play around and experiement.
The other consideration when making your own floor is whether it rests on the DAZ Studio ground level or above/below that. I think there is a way to adjust the default ground level so that drop-to-ground actions (like CTRL-D) move your figure to your chosen floor level but I don't remember how to do that. Perhaps someone can remind me (or maybe it was all a dream)?
