D3D 4.7 materials UI

It would be very helpful if we could right-click on a figure in the scene and remove all materials from that figure. That, or if when we go to apply a new material that new material can automatically over-ride the existing one and replace it. As it stands now, if we load a G2M, for example, and then want to apply a different shader, like the subsurface marble shader (I use for anatomy reference shots) we have to first manually take the image maps out of the various slots (absolutely the diffuse, generally the bump and spec as well). Swapping out materials should be simpler, ideally. Fewer steps.

But you can ...
I just loaded a base G2M, put the Apeworld 2 Gorilla HD materials on, then went to Surfaces tab, selected the whole figure (by clicking on the 'node name' - Genesis 2 Male) and applied a Bricks with Plaster shader (basically the first random non-skin shader I came across). Loosk a bit bizarre, but it works :)
I thinnk the issue here is the difference between a shader preset and a materials peset. A material preset is like instructions: applythis shader, change that image map, etc. Ifthe instructions do not specifically state:change the specular map on torso, it may well leave it completely alone and whatever was there before remains.
Right tool for the right job. In some cases you might need to make your own.
I just want to clear the figure of everything except the UV set (because Daz apparently doesn't do anything procedurally with materials, the models have to have UVs). I tried what SimonJM mentioned, still no dice.
It would be nice if the scene panel gave us, in addition to the list of objects, a list of all applied materials/shaders/maps. We could then select from that list and delete. Poof!
