Hi, my name is Brent and I'm a DAZ addict.
I first downloaded DAZ in the winter of 2018. At first, I didn't like it. In fact, you might even say I hated it.
I then thought I'd grow to like it if I bought a digital character. So I did. I still didn't like it, but I kept double-clicking on the DAZ Studio icon, loading my new Victoria 4 charcter, and after a while, it started to grow on my.
You might say, DAZ is an aquired taste.
I started buying more things from the DAZ store, but soon, I started running out of money. I posted in online forums begging for DAZ gift cards. I even went on to social media with a video of me sitting in front of my computer saying, "Will work for DAZ credits."
Late at night, I'd get up, sneak in to the other room, shut the door and run DAZ Studio. I'd render until I couldn't see any more. Caffien was of no use. I'd just passout in my chair only to be woken by the flicker of the monitor when my render would complete.
I realized I had hit bottom one night when I went searching for pirated DAZ items. I was so desperate I'd download lousy "free" assets only to discover they'd give me a render headache like you'd never believe.
My wife would call out, "Hun? When are you coming downstairs to eat."
I wouldn't answer.
Then, one day a friend said, "Dude, you need to get some help. The guys are missing you on game night. You've got to give up this DAZ stuff."
After a while, he stopped inviting me places. I was loosing weight and my eyesight.
It all came to my attention and awakening when my grandchild walked in and said, "Grandpa, when are you going to play catch with me?"
I didn't even know I had grandchildren and my daughter had got married.
That brings me here today.
I'm Brent, and I'm a DAZ addict.

Yeah, you have my sympathy, I'm the same. And like most addicts, I hate the thing I'm addicted to.
The best part of this is, "I didn't even know I had grandchildren".
That may be true, but admist it, you like the buzz you feel when a render goes right.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I should print it out for my grandchildren to read.
Must....daz....must daz... Hi I'm Chuck, and I'm a Daz addict.
I'm very definitely and positively not a DAZ addict. I can go for over a week without buying any content.
Cheers,
Alex.
I can stop whenever I want to.
I buy a lot less these days unless it's during a sale and it's older stuff - mostly sets and props. I find MOST of the new releases these days to be exceptionally disappointing with a few exceptions.
arrrrh sales....![crying crying](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/cry_smile.png)
I am not so much as DAZ addict as I am a 3D addict. I bought my first PC in order to play a game I saw in a store in 2000 and after playing every part of the game discovered modding it and it was downhill ever since into a spiraling 3D addiction, LOL. I have tried everything, from co-running an addon site for SIMS mods, to working for a couple different game studios, to doing commercial addons for several different games, all it did was make me want more, and more, LOL Whenever I saw a new 3D app i had to try it, GMAX, Milkshape, Wings, Rhino, Silo, Lightwave, 3DSMax, Maya, and on and on. Now Daz Studio is my drug, um app of choice, BUT virtual reality is slowly trying to lure me away with it's wonderful highs.
We've been talking about possibly getting into VR modeling. We've seen a lot of videos on it and it looks cool has heck. I have a lot of passions but 3D is in the top 5. I modeled for 2 years before ever becoming a merchant selling my stuff. Money has always been a factor though. Sadly it's too expensive for the top of the line apps so we have to settle for the middle road but we do have Modo now so I'm excited to get creating again, now being down for 2 years because of medical issues. DS has changed a lot in 2 years and I'm having to relearn basically.
...+1
VR is more about the engine than the modeling. I was just watching the latest "in the studio" Daz YT video and the intro before it starts would be cool to have in VR and not just an animation. Could be done easily importing all that into Unity since you can view any project you are working on in Unity in VR. Blender and Maya both have VR modeling capabilities, but I haven't done much with either other than exploring which is still pretty cool in the headset.
I feel you on the money aspect, it's why I don't have access to all the cool toys anymore, LOL
Agreed. Just ANOTHER pose set? When we had a gazillion of poses already? An HDRI light setup, again? Another paper-thin clothing set? Another set of hair with insufficient morphs to even fit a plain top hat to it? There are a couple of PA's that I am actively avoiding, due to the sub standard quality they deliver. I am a bit disappointed with DAZ not to reject those submissions (esp. the clothing sets. Other sites DO have better ones).
I am only in for very few PA's, trying to be innovative. Most of them have delivered good quality also in the past, PLUS providing support in the forum. For me, that feedback channel is essential. I can undersatnd PA's that are not doing it, but they do limit their own potential. And, the forums are a "safe" channel for interacting with the PA's customers, as the moderators are doing a great job keeping the forum valuable.
There is a DAZ addicts anonymous thread in the PC+ forum where you can get utterly no help whatsoever,![wink wink](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)
Sadly Google site search cannot help find it because that forum not public.![frown frown](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/confused_smile.png)
DAZ forum search is useless.
but if you can find it, you can at least gain some solidarity![cool cool](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/shades_smile.png)
That's what they call denial. LOL
Oh, you just gave me an idea for an April Fools joke on DAZ.
wait it's 2018 already ? I started in 2005 ...
1997 I bought my first 3d program - Vue d'Esprit 2 - and I was hooked. LOL Been fooling around with 3D ever since.
I can't really say it's an addiction because I do get other things I need to do, or must do, done, but I do enjoy buying and using the particular products I buy here.
I belatedly found the thread looking for something else
gotta love forum search, it was a totally unrealed term![cheeky cheeky](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)

I tried to talk my boss in to an Evans & Sutherland system in 1982. He said, "No". :(
Started with Metacreations, sprites overlays(reminded me of the old felt-boards) . Found Terragen it used to be free. Found Jasc Paint Shop Pro free. Found Bryce, fell in love. Lost my Bryce, store went out of biz, but wait...DAZ Studio bought Bryce and offered free download, and free download of their DAZ Studio versions 1 & 2. Had a hard time learning it, using the few items. then DAZ Studio version 3 came with Victoria 3. I was hesitant, but it came with the fairy, and learned a lot. Platinum Club came along, so I ventured into some props and then... I began to understand posing better (got a faster machine). Then DAZ Studio version 4....and new generations of figures. (got an even faster machine) After that, I have cruised for props, and environments (got a faster machine and external drive)And, this sale around, I found products on sale that had seemed beyond reach. Yep. Just when I thought I was sated from this year's PC sale, today a blink sale had Ron's Brushes. Well, heck I got Mermaid stuff on sale, they need water, right?
Hello, my name is Roger and I'm a Daz addict also. I discovered Daz Studio about a year ago while looking for virtual 3D characters. I stumbled on Kari5 Virtual Girl and found that they use Daz Studio for their Avatars.Couriosly, I clicked the link and saw that it was a free download so i did it. My wonder was restricted being I had an older laptop that didn't even support IRay. I browsed through the Daz store and saw all of the awesome renders that I could do. So I purchased a high end computer, which I never could afford before, and started my Daz training (lots of Youtube videos).
The next thing I know, I'm buying figures, scenes, props, lighting, morphs. You name it. Every day I would wake up and check the sales and buy something. EVERY DAY!. The other day I counted 53 figures that I downloaded! Today I went on my sales history and added it all up. Over $700 of stuff. Then it it hit me. I have a problem. The people at Daz Studio must love me.
How many others are like me? Thank God I don't drink, gamble or do drugs. If this is my only vice, then maybe its ok.
