This guy is ok... but doesnt really do it for me.

This guy reminded me of this guy: http://www.daz3d.com/cs-buttlebot3000 which is much cheaper, but i really didnt care for him either... but it did give me an idea.
I took this guy... http://www.daz3d.com/eye-robot, which i actually owned but was planning to use for another purpose. And worked on him a little bit to make the guy attached.
Not exactly what i wanted (i really dont like the arms), but i actually like everything else about him... except his eye. I definitely need that retextured as i cannot make surface changes only to get the look i want.
I might just give him a try... still not sure though.

That $40 pack looks like something inspired by or an attempt at an update of an Atari game. I'm not familiar with Asteroids or anything anymore to really recognize the shapes, they just look that style, head-on. I like the little guy, too. Kind of a more docile looking (perhaps only looking?) take on the space probe droid on Hoth. Good level of detail, though most of it is simple primitives and extrusions.
Eyes and brains...heh. I drew a cyborg head once, long, long ago, but have never had the desire to put organic parts in any of my robots. Seems like preservation would either be too much effort or destroy the organ's functions. Also, parts that look like (or actually are) organic parts are creepy, as SkyNet has been so very happy to exploit in most of its Terminator designs.
Addressed the eye situation. It was bugging me.
I think we might have a winner.
